Strange, because mine don't look that way. Is there any possibility that you have applied the model to the boot, but that the specific boot file model for that player is still the old one?
I'll post a screenshot of what mine look like when I get home.

Here is what my screenshot looks like... I know that the second picture is the Ace PureControl texture, but the model is the 'ACE+' one.
The only issue that I see is that the right foot sock is not quite wide enough, allowing the leg to protrude right above the tongue of the shoe. Additionally, there is a small spot on the outside of the left foot where the boot is not wide enough as well.

I know you already said you are not interested in making Mercurial Vapor model...but I want to try again. Look at the pic below:
That's my (early) attempt to Mercurial Vapor by using Superfly model (other models don't suit the boot)...I used red color for boot and white for collar...the model is simply perfect (studs are the proper ones)! you should cut off the collar and that's it (easy to say, hard to do). Please, take into consideration my request...Mercurial Vapor deserves a proper model!

Right sock is also shorter than the left
