Your goalies sucking doesn't help either. Montoya has been a complete disaster, that goal from the blue line off a soft wrist shot was pathetic. The other goalie isn't much better either. Bourque is done for the tournament as well. Not looking good for the US.

Quarterfinal Saturday at World Juniors

TSN.ca Staff

1/1/2005

It's quarterfinal Saturday at the World Junior Hockey Championship in North Dakota.

The Czech Republic and Finland square off with the winner meeting Team Canada in one semifinal while Russia awaits the winner of today's game between Sweden and the defending champions from the United States.

Both games can be seen live on TSN today at 4:30pm et and 8pm et respectively.

The Czech Republic (3-1) finished second in Group A after a clutch 3-1 victory over a floundering squad from the United States in the final game of the round-robin. Florida Panthers prospect Rostislav Olesz leads the team in scoring with five goals and eight points in the tournament while St. Louis Blues draft pick Marek Schwarz is a standout between the pipes.

Despite losing to Slovakia early in the tournament, Finland (2-2) squeaked into the playoff round ahead of the brash Slovakians with the help of a tiebreaker. New York Islanders first rounder Petteri Nokelainen leads the way with just four points and Tuukka Rask is expected to get the start in net.

The winner meets Canada (4-0) in the semifinals on Sunday and you can catch the game live on TSN at 4pm et/1pm pt.

Sweden (2-2) lost to both Canada and Finland in the round-robin, yet managed to finish second in Group B after a tiebreaker. Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Johannes Salmonsson leads the offence with five goals while Christopher Heino-Lindberg backstops the Swedish side.

The host American team (2-2) was still reeling from a shocking 5-3 loss to Belarus on Wednesday, when they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Czech Republic, resulting in a third place finish in Group A. Buffalo Sabres first rounder Drew Stafford has been outstanding with two power play goals and five points while New York Rangers prospect Al Montoya has struggled down the stretch.

The winner will take on Russia (3-1) in the semifinals Sunday night.

In other action Saturday, Switzerland blanked Germany to the tune of 5-0 in the first relegation game.

Canada-Czech Republic
USA-Russia

Those are the semi matchups, from what I saw from the game, Canada should win, even with injuries/illnesses taking there toll.

It was a mistake letting Seabrook stay with the team, if your not 100% you shouldn't be on the team. The player who got cut(Quincey) should've stayed with the team, he played well enough to earn a spot as a 7th defencemen. Now the blueline is getting thin and Getzlaf can't play D to save his life, that little experiment at the end of the last game didn't go very well.

Tough break for Barker getting Mono, you wait all year to play for the jrs and have to miss it because of illness. Hopefully no one else comes down with anything and Canada can win it (hopefully vs the US).:D

Modena_10, if your from Winnipeg why wouldn't you put it as your location?

I wish there's no draft and they get to be free agents.

I know what team Crosby would go for. :brow:

It's not the Leafs. ;)

Now the phrase "Best Jr. Team Ever Assembled" can be associated with this team.(Y)

Didn't see the game but caught the highlights. Ovechkin got abused by everyone, that's how you shut a showbot down.(Y)

With possibly no NHL next year maybe we'll get another year of Canada's best at the world jrs.:rockman:

Now Canada becomes the first country to hold all 6 of the major hockey titles in the world at one time.

Starting XI
Jeff Carter tied Eric Lindros for the lead in all time goals for the WJC. (12)

....im praying for the NHL to come back at this point.

Anyone see Ovechkin bawling like a bitch after the game? Oh, man, the sight of him blubbering like that is avatar or sig worthy.

Canada sent MEN to this tournment. They sent professionals, a team capable of competing for the Stanley Cup, while the other countries could only afford to send a bunch of under-20 year olds. I mean, wow.....all of those guys (except Crosby) are in my age bracket and they all came off as being grown adults, man, both on the ice and off of it. And if any of you think for one second that they're gonna let off next year in Van-city because they'll only have two returnees while teams like Russia, the Czechs and Finland will have close to a dozen, I suggest you get a tape of the under-17 year olds prospect game that was held a day later........wow. Canada's pool of talent can only be matched by the country of Brazil's NT team (maybe not even) It's just insane.....almost unfair..........sheesh.

you are quick to forget the Canadian players' tears after Russia beat them in 2002 and 2003
