Is it me or is there NO MOVES? :| :O

Maybe theres a different way to do them.. but ive tried everything and you can't perform any tricks.

I checked the button config in the menu and it lists EVERYTHING but tricks! I think EA have officially lost (as if they havent already) if they didn't include this.

Well yet to play a match, when it loads you get Ronaldinho in the freestyle area so you can practice all you want!

Graphics look great, movement is, well, natural. I'll play a match now.

The intro shows only 5 nation badges for leagues, which I think we knew. I can't recall them all as the screen passed quick, but as expected the major where there; Eng, Ita, Esp, Ger and the 5th I forget!

Can someone score some goals and let me know if the tricks work? I've been suspicious of this as I haven't seen anybody pull off a trick in the gameplay footage.... I will be heated if I can't pull off some moves... at least in the full version

First impressions:

Well my last Fifa game was WC06 on the 360. I played this again the other day and it seemed a little scripted. Well, someone just took that script and ripped it up! Unbelievable.

The gameplay is very fluid and there appears to be no frame rate issues from the limited time I have played. The ball is completely free, the players are free, its just free movement. It does seem a little slower than football games in the past, but I believe this may be a more realistic speed. I imagine there will be options to change this. The slowness seems to come in trying to turn a player, they just turn a little slow.

I started with Barce vs Milan (at Wembley, the only choice). I scored a great goal with Eto on my first shot, a right footer from the edge of the box to top right corner. I thought, oh know, same old Fifa on shots. BUt, all my shots since missed the target. The, Messi broke down the wing and sent in a hanging cross to the D. Using the right stick I pulled Ronaldinho back and hit a volley on the turn which bounced before the keeper heading to bottom right corner. The technique was immense. Dida saved the shot, I wish I could show the video as if Fifa is like this well we're in for a treat.

All the menus are the same format as NHL07 for those who have played it. Probably a universal EA thing.

My only concern is graphics. I'm not sure this demo is in full HD, and if it is well the stadium leaves a lot to be desired with some jaggies on the roof gurders. The crowd also looks rubbish compared to NHL07. However the pitch looks good and the nets are acceptable, but not really an improvement. You can choose how to cut the pitch, small sqaure, big sqaures, circles etc, by default Wembley is circles.

I hope they cut out the background graphics to compress the file size. There is no commentary so maybe thats an indicator.

Well I just finished playing my second match. Barcelona vs Man Utd on semi-pro(just to get used to it).

I drew 0-0 in the first game(because I spent the entire match trying to do skill moves with Ronaldinho, only then to find out that the trick stick is disabled in the demo ... ******* EA, you idiots!) and then won 2-0 in the second game.

I am very impressed overall, the graphics are amazing, the gameplay is so realistic and the new animation engine is proving itself to be a great addition. There is no commentary, but the effects and the crowd work wonders with a 5.1 setup.

So other than there being no commentary and the trick stick being disabled(******* EA!) ... it's a pretty good demo and I will be 100% buying the game.

disabled? thats pretty gay.. i was hopeing to master it with the demo.. but its prob to prove its better than pes.. no trick stick w/ good gameplay..


can u atleast do first touch?

Are we sure they've been disabled or will they not appear in the full version?? That would be awful but I wouldn't be surprised :( I haven't seen any gameplay footage of a trick ever being pulled off..... I reaaaaaaaaally hope that it's because this is a demo....

Yeah exactly what i thought right after i couldn't do any tricks.. i haven't seen any gameplay footage that showed this. And i remember in the Gamespot interview the guy asked about the tricks, if he could show him them, and if there are any new ones. The EA guy didn't even answer the question.. or show him anything. He just went on about the players being able to turn quicker or something of that nature.. and totally avoided the question. The whole its a demo thing sort of makes sense.. but if they put the effort and used the space to include The Arena.. and give us a nice selection of teams and what not.. why would they axe the trick stick?

To expand on my earlier post I have some more thoughts:

- Replays or cutscenes suffer a low frame rate and very low lighting (in some cases). For example, when getting a booking and the players surround the ref the frame rate drops to a stutter.

- There are no officials on the pitch.

- The stadium (excluding pitch and advertising) look awful in my opinion.

- I can't do any tricks.

However, the gameplay is very good, and I think thats what we all wanted. The gameplay framerate is also fine.

I know they said tricks are going to be harder to pull of this time and more timing and case sensitive.. in the ign preview they said you can push the ball to the right side of a defender and you take your player around the left side.. anyone tried that yet?

Also the tricks in fifa 07 current gen are also harder to pull off than last yr so is probably similar

I noticed the low lighting in cutscenes, but no real framerate issues yet.

I also agree with Phil, the stadium looks terrible apart from the pitch.

One thing I really like about the fact that there is no commentary, is that you can hear the announcer say things through the match. The two I have heard so far are:

"Coming up at half time we will have a perfomance from a dog training team, so stay in your seats for that one."

And ...

"Would the parents of (I forget the name he said) please come to the east ticket gate. That's the parents of ... to the east ticket gate. Thank you."

It made me laugh, anyway. Also I scored a crossbar and in with Ronaldinho about 40 yards out, the keeper was off his line so I blasted it and he backtracked and nearly got his fingertips to it ... it was very realistic how it happened.

There not very hard to pull of in current gen.. only the more advanced player specific tricks.. like the elastico and what not. If you push Up Up on the trick stick in current gen you do a step over.. not very difficult. But hopefully its just disabled or something for the demo (some how doubt it.. but thats just me)

the crazy tricks are not in the 360 version, you can perform step-overs and the like and turns, not no crazy tricks that you hardly ever see in real games. It's more tactical to beat defenders.

The gameplay is fantastic! Very realistic.

who cares if u cant do the tripple back somarsault... the overall play is very realistic, probably the most realistic football game ive played, the ball pyhisics are immense..

look at pro evo, which in my opinion was far superior to fifa in terms of realism and playability, yet there were a hand full of tricks u could do, which i dont think i ever used.. so dont feel too downhearted bout the tricks... the gameplay has improved drastically and thats all you need to know (unless u like arcade footie games which was fifa of the old)
