Lately the Brazilian league and overall football has declined a lot. It's no news that our talents are sold to Europe just like any other country without a strong league, but it's more than that. The clubs here have awful administration, struggle financially, which leads to huge squad changes every year for most teams, and a very low level of players overall. I'm a Botafogo fan, and my team, after finishing 4th in 2013 (Seedorf
) and making the Libertadores for the 1st time in many many years, just drowned in a financial crisis in 2014, failing to get anywhere in the Libertadores (after Seedorf went to coach AC Milan...), losing pretty much all the important players of the squad during the year due to payment problems, and finally getting relegated to Série B (and even in doubt if the club would remain working or would declare bankruptcy). This is only one example of many clubs here. Our clubs are getting behind in the race against other South American clubs. Now, I rarely watch a game from here, I find the level of play really ugly.
And the fact that FIFA hasn't really offered much more than the Brazilian Série A, and now a couple of other South American leagues (that I've never been a fan of and never watched) didn't really make me want to play with it. You know, harder to make realistic transfers, not a lot of immersion (relegation/promotion) and a lot of teams missing for continental football.
