He makes Mario Gomez look like Ronaldinho. He also eliminated Bayern one year.

You're going into dangerous territory here, technique and flamboyance vs effective and cunning.

All I have to say is I'd like to have my striker have a little bit of both but I'd be leaning towards a Pippo-like striker anytime. He's the most classic poacher there is! Ever! You gotta respect the man :)
I mean, if everyone looked at it like you, he'd never play football.

That's because poacher-wise, he makes Mario Gomez look like Ronaldinho. And alright, I understand.

Erm...

Inzaghi: 196 goals in 459 league appearances. 287 in 614 total.

Gomez: 131 goals in 231 league appearances. 172 in 300 total.

Even adjusting for league quality and style, and probably even taking out the last 4 years for Inzaghi, Gomez is better. Inzaghi never came anywhere close to what Gomez did last season, and he played for better teams.

Even Gomez's much criticized International Form is on par with Pippo; scoring in 40.4% of games compared to 43.8% for Inzaghi.

I never said who was the better player. I said poacher-wise. Of course Gomez scores loads with his lucky strikes (to which you'll probably reply with "accurate positioning") but I've never seen anyone beat the offside line like Inzaghi. I wasn't saying one was good and the other bad, there is more than one good striker in the world.

You said poacher wise he was far better. The stats do not back that up. "Lucky" goals are what poaching is all about.

Gomez and Inzaghi are 9's, poachers, Gomez does have better technical skills but he's still a looooong loooong way of getting anywhere near Pippo's reputation. Listen it's not only about stats, Inaghi has scored a lot of IMPORTANT goals, a lot of goals where Milan (or Juve when he was there) where looking like loosing, Pippo turns games around, Pippo scores even if you're an underdog, while Gomez needs a brilliant team behind him. Pippo is thought of as a savior in Italy and not only there, he symbolizes old Italian football which most of us don't find attractive, but the fact is that he is the trademark of a stoppage time goal after a whole game of defending and him coming on in 80th minute as a sub. I used to hate him when he was at Juve cause he'd always save them, in a way he can be as important as a superstar and incredibly technical player.

And IMHO the combination of a skilled second striker coupled with a poacher with intelligent movement and timing is still the best thing in football even though a shortcut for this kind of opening up opposing teams is used now by having wingers that sit on the corners of the box almost playing like full on strikers. Three players are far more certain to do the job and they don't need to be as talented, just pacey and with good control and so-so passing and shooting ability. Sorry for this digression. Just to add that this has changed a lot in football now, strikers need to be a lot stronger and second strikers now kinda suffer being tied to alternating wing positions. I just want to say I'm kinda getting tired of cutting in to take a shot or play though someone. Football has become a lot more predictable with this new use of wingers/second strikers, it seems it's just a matter of individual dribbling skill (or lack of skill defending on the other side). It's more exciting for me when football is played though the middle through a classic 10. Bring back the 90's!!! :(
Or at least Zizou :)

And I still maintain that. To me, Pippo is still better than Gomez in that aspect.

the Old Lady were by far the more deserving team, but it's Lady Luck who delivered: a ricochet goal, AND a howler! hahaha

- Abbiati is a decent shot-stopper, but a keeper must dive HANDS FIRST across the goal line, NOT FEET FIRST ... could have blocked Pedro at the far post ... if he had done so and still conceded the goal, fair enough ... but that is an alarming technical flaw!
goddam Abbiati proving me right ... literally dropped the ball on that one ...
no need to repeat myself ... it's time Uncle Fester gave Udinese a call for Handanović!

for marks out of 10, Allegri gets -10:

- if you want to play 4-3-1-2, you can't play Prince as trequartista, coz he isn't one ... Fantantonio must be the fantasista, with Zlatan + El Shaarawy/Pippo up front ...

- taking off Cassano for Urby was criminal ... Seedorf was having a stinker from minute 1, while Cassano was the most dangerous creative outlet in the second half, and created the only clear-cut chance for Milan by setting up Prince ... the choice for the substitution should have been obvious!

Ahh f**k! Well, last years scudetto required a lot a hard work, it was certainly not easily won, they need to wake up and start working their asses off!

Yeah VdV is amazing, i believe he went to the wrong clubs since left Ajax. I rather have Eriksen because he's younger and if i'm not wrong Zlatan and Van der Vaart are not very friends.

Dutchies are always fiesty (“conflict model”, I think they call it) ...

van der Vaart's relationship with Redknapp is not that good now, which is why Milan are sniffing around ...

the Dutch national team was renowned for internal squabbling when I started watching in 90s ... and even in recent times, Sneijder and van Persie have had beef ... Seedorf, meanwhile, has been snubbed for many years due to potentially causing further dressing room disruptions ...

speaking of Seedorf: he only extended his contract for a season, and I don't think it's worth handing him another one ... so Galliani should sign both Ajacieden -- one for the present, and one for the future ...

when he was at Inter, Zlatan recommended van der Vaart to Moratti and Branca ... for the sake of Milan, and in the twilight of their careers, I'm fairly confident Raffie and Zlatan will bury the hatchet if the need arises ...

First time I ever seriously remember the Dutch was in World Cup 98, I think the third place game against Croatia, and the announcers were all over the internal problems. They even said the locker room was divided along racial lines, which I've heard is a nasty little undercurrent in Dutch Football, but rarely spoken about or certainly not allowed to boil over in the locker room of a team at the World Cup.

Strange because I remember the players that I admired most from that team were Kluivert, Seedorf, and Davids, and then MAYYYBE Frank De Boer and Overmars. If those were the most iconic players in the team, then it's not hard to envision some jealousy from less talented white players. And the darling of the nation seemed to be the enigmatic Denis Bergkamp.

loved Kluivert!

the racism undercurrent, though I obviously didn't know it at the time, dates back to Ruud Gullitt's era ... and shouldn't come as a surprise that Winston Bogarde was at the heart of black/white troubles in that mid-to-late 90s squad; the guy clearly had issues ... but there were a lot of genuine friendship too during those strained times (like between van der Sar and Davids) ...
