My PS2 as of late won't read any of my games so I was planning to get it repaired. It turns out that with my friends, when they got their PS2 repaired it would work but then end up getting messed up again. It will cost $99 to get it repaired but what I was thinking is that I should just buy a new one since it doesn't seem to be a guarantee that it will be repaired. A PS2 costs $180 nowadays. What should I do? Help is much appreciated.

look bro this is what i did.........i called up sony and told them what was goin on, they told me the game was messed up and to send it to them, all i had to pay was s & h (which was about 15$) and they told me it would take a month, but i got it 2 weeks later, so my advise would be call up sony and dont worry about warranty cause sony doesnt ask u for it cuz mine was over 2 years old when that happened and that would have been way over the warranty............its been about 5 or 6 months since i got it repaired and it still works like it was brand new.......so if u wanna wait 2 weeks but only spend 15 bux callin sony is the way to go

My friend has got the same problem and he was told by another of my friends that there is a website where they give you instructions to repair your PS2 if it is having a "disk read error" problem. He is going to buy the supplies and were going to fix our own Playstations. My friend said that his PS2 works like brand new so it sounds like its worth the risk.

Give it ago and if it dont work just get a new one. Have u checked out if it the game giving you the problemss. That happened to me once but it was the game. All u do, if its the game just take it down to a local Video Shop and ask if theyw ill clean your disk.

The thing is that none of my games work at all. I bought a new game in August and I haven't been able to play it since. I even rented a new game as well to see if it would work. Of course, that didn't work either. I'll just fix it myself and save me the money for college.
Alright this is what I did. I decided to buy a new PS2 w/ the network adapter. It cost me $215 and it came with a free game. I gave my old PS2 to my cousins so they will get it repaired. Apart from the free game, my friend gave me NBA Jam since my birthday was a couple days ago and my brother bought Nascar Thunder 2004 which is badass. A pretty good day IMO. 
cool if u get fifa 2004 for the ps2 we can play a couple of games
