Akira Kurosawa Collection

[Ubik Valis]

I've been looking at this Kurosawa collection for a long time, which consists of 5 smaller (and separate) boxes, in 5 different colours (red, blue, white, black and grey). Each box has 3 movies, and costs 300 Danish kroner, which is about 45€.

Today, however, I saw all the boxes at a lower price (a 3rd off) and felt tempted to buy at least two of them. But I'm wondering about whether there is a better Kurosawa boxset already made (or on the way), which you guys would recommend...or should I just go for this one? Thanks.

are those the Criterion ones? Ive a few of them and they release the best versions

I dont know of any collections I'm afraid, in Britain all we have is the amazingly cool BFI releases which are the movies individually at extremely inflated prices.

Some of the best ones, such as Ran, Kagemusha, Stray Dog, High and Low etc, seem to be missing from those boxes, unless they're in number five.

45 Euros is about £30 is about £10 a movie, which isnt that great bearing in mind box sets should really be cheaper. I'd spend your money cherry picking your individual favourites.

I already have Ran individually, and I think that Kagemusha (and perhaps even Stray Dog) are on the 5th box...but not quite sure yet.

These are the ones we get over here, same price at £10 a movie. All my Kurosawa's are this version and I really like them - excellent quality and good features. Not sure if you could get them shipped to Denmark though.

There's a box set in there too but I dont know anything about it.
