American Fifa 06 impressions

everyone to busy playing the game to give comments on it?

my first impression is how much different it is from 2005. in fact it reminds me more of WE then previous fifas. i think if you haven't bought the game yet, and you liked 2005, you might want to rent it first to see if you like it. not that it's a bad game, but that its that much different. will be a few weeks before i determine for myself if that's a good thing or not.

for those that prefered WE you may want to give 06 a test run yourself. :sun:

I bought the game on Xbox yesterday. I have played four games, won two, lost two and in every game the score was 1-0. My percentage of possession was only around 40 percent. It seems that every time you take the ball away from the opponent in midfield, they take it right back. The majority of play is very tight in the midfield. The computer attack is varied. They don't just focus on wing play and cross into the box like FIFA 2005. It's much harder to sprint downfield and play "fast break soccer" like previous versions, but I progressively have taken more shots in the games.
The only thing I miss from last year is playing matches in different stadiums. So far so good.

your comment about playing matches in other stadiums...

when you are selecting your team to play as, L1 and R1 (don't know what the translation to xbox would be) toggles to Location. there you can choose whatever stadium you want as well as time of day/weather.

i was thinking the same thing about playing at night before i stumbled upon that. (Y)

I'll be picking it up tommorow on my way home from work. I'll play it for a while, then post some impressions.

Up to this point, I've been a WE guy, but seeing as I have no clue when the WE game is coming out for the 360, I'm gonna try FIFA till then.

It looks good, sounds pretty good from the impressions I've read, so I definitely can't wait to try it.

I dont expect it to be perfect (no game is), but from the sound of it, its made quite a few leaps from last year.

I rented the PS2 version and like it quite a bit, the only things I have problems with are the controller responsiveness and how the ball changes to a dark color with white spots when the ball is on the mid-far side of the field with any given camera....most evident when using the Nike balls

MAJOR problems:

Goalkeepers still suck. They are so useless, on hard shots from an angle they punch it in the air, resulting in it floating in the goal anyway. On 1-v-1s they stand there and dont even dive, pretty much allowing you to walk right in the goal. Blah

A lot of glitches, bugs. I scored, and it didnt count. I shot it and it went in the net and the commentator said "ohhh nice try" WTF this game isnt suppost to do that. And also, I was playing vs my friend and he dribbled and pushed 3 of my defenders along with him, like the defenders froze and they were gliding along the pitch. ???????? Also there was a time frame of 10 seconds where no one could touch the ball, you would just go through it and not dribble.

What the hell, this game isnt suppost to be this way right? Is it just my game or what? And by the way its easy as hell to score now on world class, certain shots that you can do consistently can't be saved by the goalie, ever.

Ok, i'm a WE guy, but neither the negative nor positive reviews on this thread has convinced me.
Come on guys! We need real reviews, something we can actually go by.
I'm driving up to MA and I might get it there on Sunday, so please, there 2 more days before we get some good reviews for this game.
So far i've heard good things (outside these forums), but I want to hear it from here to make sure I know what i'm getting myself into.
If I dont get anything by the time Monday comes around i'll just have to rent it then.

I would try returning the game. If it's on PC then some stores don't allow that, but you can usually have a good talk with the manager and what not. If it's on console, it might be easier to return. But it sounds like it's your copy of the game because no one else has complained of these bugs which are pretty big. If the new disc you get is the same, then EA messed up badly.

I figured out how to choose stadiums in the pre-game menu last night, thanks. It still seems very crowded in the midfield. Much easier to score in FIFA 2005. I sense a bit of catch-up AI at work. In my last match, Roma-Ajax, I scored with Roma in the 11th minute, then Ajax drew level with a goal in the 16th minute. They won on a goal in the 84th minute.
I need to practice on the corner kicks. It seems that there are few chances for set pieces also. Those were always a nice way to pick up some goals. The computer defence plays much wider, taking the ball all the way to the sideline sometimes.

Let go of sprint button, turn your body towards the corner and shoot straight and he wont get it.

And Yes FFC2004, its on Gamecube, so im going to have some exchanging to do.

Not the best FIFA ever but no where close to the worst. The best since RTWC 98 and i love it. The only thing is that there are a few glitchies and the rosters are up to date :(

First impression

I've only played the game against the classic team so far... on the PS2...

I just didn't like it. I thought it was cluncky and ball physics suck as usual, as well as some weird player movement (animation) physics...

The commentary is just blah so far, and it hasn't made me excited...

I still have quite a bit more games to play before I can give my final opinion, but it just feels like FIFA 2004 too much...

I have played the demo on the computer and it is apparently way more smooth than the actual game...

I don't like it yet...

I've played about 30 games so far...played on PS2 by the way

PROS - The career mode is much better.
-More activities going on with your team...like the interaction with players and fans.
-Also the salary that you give to your players and being able to loan them to other teams.
-The scouting option is good.
-Player fatigue is more realistic this year as well.
-The walk button to slow down play and the on the fly setup during the game.
-Addition of teams
-Passing seems to have improved slightly
-Corners and Freekicks are more realistic.
-The authencity of the game is always good.

CONS
-The problem I have...and seen it on previous versions of fifa...is the button reaction to on the field play...example...if I push the pass button, because of the animation the player doesn't pass the ball until its too late...same thing goes for the shooting button. I would like the game to respond to my controls as quick as possible..very slow.
-Forwards are still not able to outrun a defender when a perfect through ball is received and left 1v1 with the keeper. Forward seems to lose the ball.
-I dont feel like the shooting is that good either. Sometimes it seems the shot is in slow motion and not able to pick a corner to shoot. I cant get a handle on the aiming.
-The jerseys of Fenerbahce have the players name on the bottom of the number rather than where it belongs and cant read the name of the player. Not sure if it is the same with some other teams.
-Sometimes after goals when players are celebrating the screen will freeze.
-The gameplay seems a little clumpy...not that smooth as I would like it to be.
-On the kickoff the cpu takes awhile to restart the game...gets annoying when your in career mode and want to finish the game quick.

This is what I can come up with right now...im sure there is more for both pros and cons...I have to play the game again to recall them. Overall its not a bad game...but seems to have improved from the past versions. The WE gameplay to me is still better...but with the authencity of Fifa and the career mode it has that edge. It depends on what type of game you wanna play. If your not concerned with career mode and just want to play a real life soccer simulation then go with WE. Both games are good to have. You have to sacrafice one thing based on which agme you choose, Graphics and authencity with WE and gameplay with Fifa.

is it true I can jostle loose balls wih the right analog stick?
If not, how can I win balls when players are should to shoulder- I NEVER WIN THEM :taz:
And how can I keep the ball longer if Im shoulder to shoulder?

will from brasil...

the only way i've been doing it for the past couple of fifa's (and this one) is to keep on turning away from the defender (keep the key/stick pressed away from the defender)... in most of hte cases your player will break away from the defender... itll slow your attack down obviously, but at least you'll still have the ball and some options..

btw... u have to do this early in the shoulder challenge... if you're late then it won't make any difference
