Anime and Olympics thread

That's right. These two things are good, and people want to talk about them, so this thread is made just for that.

Personally I secretly like Fruits Basket (which my girlfriend watches) and love the cycling at the Olympics. But I'm disgusted that track cycling is losing medals/events for BMX. That's like taking away swimming medals for water polo.

And track cycling is one of the main stays if the Olympics. It's all quite ridiculous when you have 4 strokes of swimming over so many lengths. Yet all the track cycling events were quite different.

Cycling is the best. When people say biking, I imagine Bikers, ie. Motorcyclists.

Usain Bolt will be good. Australian's aren't into Track and Field that much though.

What about anime Shifty? This is the anime and Olympics thread?

Australia has a guaranteed medal in Sally Pearson in athletics. Looking forward to swimming and how Stephanie Rice, Federica Pellegrini, Ian Thorpe if he gets there and Ryan Lochte are going to perform.

Love the underwater shots shows how efficient their strokes are.

Swimming is always fun, hope Phelps has a good showing. I'm also obviously interested in soccer and basketball. I find crew/rowing interesting in small doses and it should be fun on some of those rivers with great rowing traditions.

I'm not the biggest Olympics fan but I will enjoy the fact it's in London (though I will not be going anywhere near London for the duration) and will cheer on the Brits wherever possible. I am so out of touch I dont know who our good medal chances are but I will be happy so long as we once again dominate the rowing and sailing (Britannia rules the waves)

He will definitely do well but highly unlikely as good a performance as 2008. Won't be surprised if Ryan Lochte upstages him.

I look down on all who like it. I consider Anime to be at the absolute apex of nerd hobbies.

Comic books thrash it for nerdness. Anime is often more your "arty" people and your emo's.

I do not care for comics either, but Anime IMO just carries that extra "I can't make a single friend in my own country, so I'm going to go to Japan"

Our 4x100m male team is going to be insane. It is quite possible that half of the last winning team won't make the cut this year.

When I hear "Anime" I tend to think "Manga". I don't know enough to address the topic properly, though.

4x100 should be impressive, but TBH I don't care about it either. Bolt in the 100 and 200 is all I care about. I want to see him break 9.50. If he runs hard all the way through he can do it, but then if he didn't celebrate before the race is over and try his hardest he wouldn't be Jamaican (H)

Isn't that more loser (is Nigel for someone with no friends an Australian term?) than a nerd?

I guess I give them more specific niche areas of unpopularity.

^ Haha.

So this is where we talk about the London Olympics? Hm.

Expecting a minimum of 5 medals this time around. Shooting, Archery, Boxing, Wrestling, Tennis and Badminton are the expected medal sports for India. Won't be surprised if we get close to 10 medals. Although, 10 medals would be a huge jump from the 3 we got in 2008.

China and the US are almost confirmed to finish 1st and 2nd. Will be interesting to see who finishes 3rd. With their home advantage, Great Britain might just pip Russia.
