Differs on every model/brand. If you can remove them from your PC it is pretty easy to do that. Model names wont be too hard to find. To get all the mobo, CPU, ram and HDD (i think) details you can do that through CPUZ. Sound card details through dxgiag (Run > Dxdiag) under the sound tab. Gfx card info, can be found under... right click on desktop -> properties -> settings -> advanved -> adapter. You can find gfx card bios info and mobel there. Tho this doesnt give all the info such as build dates and who modified the bios (XfX for example). Rivatuner/atitool can give further info such as clock speed and overclocking. You can find tools to find firmware and other info and new firmware about your cd/dvd drives at http://club.cdfreaks.com/.
Dunno what else... If you need info about other pci devices on your system just say it. Ill have a looksy and see if i can find anything. :)

Thanks, thats helped me but how do u know that information without going through the CPU. For example if your building computer by scratch, so you wouldnt have it all installed. Say If i had the card in my hand. cos there are many chips ive noticed with numbers on, its a case of take your pick.

you can always remove it....
anyway, all the information is written in the bios/firmware of the hardware, As long as thers apps that "know" where to look for it... Think of it as a digital stamp.
