I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet. Just read in the paper that the UN envoy for Sport, Adolf Ogi, will talk to the Argentinian FA after their players allegedly sang anti-english songs in the dressing room before the game in order to bate the England players. So much for the game being played in the right spirit.

If they did they sang it in their locker room, in their own "privacy"...It happens all the time when rival teams play, nothing new here.

Just as Rooney was tearing their defence to pieces too.Dont forget,without our first choice full backs we were made to look bad at the back at times.Also the position Ledly King is playing is something we have only recently started to experiment with,and he was responsible for Riquelme having so much room.That will be sorted out before Germany .In fact in the 2nd half Ledly began to get a better grip on the guy,so it's looking good.I would say that we actually had the weaker of the 2 teams.
A match is NEVER over until the final whistle blows.Argentina will at least learn that from this game.

By the way ,the match was held in Switzerland not Argentina.

I think the reason why we couldn't control Rooney at times (apart from his natural talent) is that Samuel or possibly Zanetti were not in their best form. Our best defender was Ayala, and when he left everything fell apart for us. Hopefully Argentina will learn about their defensive mistakes. In 4 minutes, England got to our goal 4 times which is way too many, we have to correct that for the WC. Other than that, our offensive side is still quite decent, maybe we need Aimar or Messi in as well.

Whatever was sang was done in the locker room, in their own privacy. They did not go out to the middle of the pitch to sing whatever was so offensive. They probably sang "El que no salta es un Ingles" which roughly translates to "He who does not Jump is English"...nothing offensive there. Lets try not to be picky, what matters is that there was football peace where it really mattered and that was in the pitch...

actually you are partly correct.Koncheski.is a new boy to the squad.Also we were missing our right back(Neville) and our left back(Cole).So come the world cup we will be even stronger.

El Diablo......You support perhaps, one of the most historically,cynical,violent and cheating National sides ever to grace football stadiums around the world.For god sakes dont be a hypocrite man.The referee had a good game.He didn't get mugged by some of the Argentinian players behaviour.He was firm and fair.He didn't give a penalty because,as you know,it was not a penalty.Although i did see Sorin punch the ball towards the goal at one point,which Robinson saved i'm glad to say.I would not want to see another "Hand of God" thank you.It seems like old habits die hard for some people.Anyway,did the refereee book him for that?No he did not.The ref allowed the game to flow and he did well.So with your reference to yellow cards.Please do not pretend that Argentina were not just as competitive.Its just that Argentina perfected the art of winning yellow cards a long long time ago mate.

actually quite poorly organisation (most of the things were only in french - matchprogramme, info signs, etc) I'm lucky that I can understand and speak a few words of french, but all the non-french speaking ppl were f*cked.

Andy ,your attacking play was more than decent man,it was awesome i think.Rooney tears apart every defence he encounters so i would not fault your defenders for any damage he might do.I can see why you guys are dissapointed with the subs.Sven has come in for the same comments ,but really these games are the best time for a manager to see what other players can do.The manager would have gained a lot of knowledge from those substitutuions that he might not otherwise have learned.England came in for a lot of stick when we lost to Denmark recently,and of course it was dissapointing,but that game was experimental for Sven to see how certain players would perform.Sure we lost heavily but a lot of things were learned about the quality of certain players.I thought your manager was very brave to have made the changes,He would have known that if the end result was not good,that he would be critisized heavily.It takes a manager with nerve to do that.
As for the singing of songs.Well as you say thats normal.It happens everywhere and helps to bond the players before the game.I dont have a problem with that at all.
Its true ,the important thing was that it was a wonderful clean game,and we fans were rewarded with a great match.

did Argentina start with their best lineup? If so, great job by England to beat them.

Actually Argentina doesn't have an "A team", there are only 3 or 4 players that play always or most of the matches(Sorin, Ayala & Riquelme) the rest always change, for example i can think of like 4 or 5 players that played in Maxi Rodríguez position.

I guess the problem with Rooney was that Ayala always had to assist Zanetti, notice in the first goal of England it is Ayala who fails trying to clear the ball after an error of Zanetti. Because when it was one-to-one Rooney vs. Ayala, ayala won most.

England looked good to me. Argentina are a fantastic team, there's no doubt. Riquelme obviously, but the other players as well just top the team off. But the thing is, when we were down a goal, we didn't give up. We fought back to win it... that's it ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!

Well maybe if you had watched the game you could form your own opinions about that.The substitutions certainly unsettled the Argentinian side but overall,the match statistics show that it was a very even game.Although England did have 19 shots on goal as opposed to Argentinas 10.Possession was pretty equal with Argentina being only .5% ahead on that one.

I think you have to agree that the game was pretty equal overall.But at the end of the day the first line of the stats is the most important,the scoreline.

Remember also that although the English press might not be to objective on a subject like this,Non English press do have a tendency to be anti-English too.One simple rule......do not believe anything you might read in a newspaper.Only believe what you see with your own eyes.........

No, I think they both played an equal game...Argentina was killing England at times and for example, in the end, England killed Argentina with the two goals...Overall an equal game

English egos are for the English to worry about Sean......not the Irish.And in the words of Hernan Crespo "England versus Argentina is never friendly".I think the English in general are aware of the stature or not of this result,and don't really need reminding.After everyone having a laugh over the Denmark and N.Ireland games,its very nice to be able to say that we had a blip on those occasions and the win against Argentina reinforces the knowledge that we are actually a formidable side when we need to be.If that sounds like an inflated ego,its just a conclusion reached,not by one game but by the overall impression from many games.So ....no need for little digs at the English mate.
