1. Yes true but not all the time. Its as effective if can be used properly. We certainly do have players who can adapt.

If you are honestly arguing for a designated advanced playmaking #10 like Riquelme, you need to read a LOT more than I could even point you to. There's a very good reason why you don't see that role at any top clubs right now. The short answer is Makelele.

No not that way. Not the classic way as you are saying but the modernization of it in various ways used nowadays. If you look at our game RvP plays the target man but originally as the 10 in many ways. As they say the false 9. Like Spalleti's use of Totti while at Roma.

My argument is based on we get loads of possession through passing but against the Stokes n all its pretty difficult to penetrate when you have giants assigned to defend only. We don't find enough space to shoot or pass and pass and pass ultimately finding fullbacks crossing inside the box to no one. Van Persie being the focal point has to link up the whole thing without anyone in the box or ends up isolated. So we could use Chamakh or Bendtner in such games with RvP playing behind him in the hole. He is more than capable of that. We may concede possession more but with an extra body in the box can help. While Fabregas plays behind him in such games Fab suffers due to his lack of pace.

A false nine alongside a target-man? So, the CBs stay on the striker, and the DM handles the false nine? In otherwords, a regular No. 10?

What a weird question. If they can deal with the thing what would go wrong??? Do u not know there are other players on the field also??? Is it that impossible to make it work??? Each and every team don't have Makeleles on their teams. We are actually pretty good at countering you know. remember the last time we met.....

I don't really understand you, but Arsenal should be looking to beat EVERY team, not every team that doesn't play a destroyer.

Seriously , Denilson leaving Arsenal during the summer could well turn out to be the best news yet for Arsenal fans . Really hope he leaves , he was a good for nothing dumbo , also wanna get rid of Squillaci and Eboue .

What's Wenger's plan if "the lost son" leaves this summer???

His Barca DNA has to be calling him lololo :biggrinx:

I feel Arsenal are better off without him (they beat United as he din start :P). Plus a huge transfer warchest is guaranteed to arrive upon his sale , so Wenger can finally start splashing the cash on good experienced players(highly unlikely though :P) .

However the question is : In Barca , is he guaranteed a place in the starting XI? Or will he just be another Mascherano? Exciting times ahead...

El jefesito was a great sign(Y) I don't think he misses LiversPool at all :innocent_smile_1:

Mascherano he has been the man since Abidal injury, he will start UCL final I think! Can't beat that, Cesc is watching on the tele Mou and Mou team hehe(H)

Maybe we should take something from Liverpool's book. They let Torres go they improved drastically and Gerrard was missing nothing affected. Fabregas running his mouth about Barca all the time pisses me off big time. We win against them....." Well they are the best team in history " WTF!!!

Denilson haha ROFL..... his comments were so funny. A Brazilian dude from Sao Paolo commented on the article.... "Lol He is from my heart's team Sao Paolo and I never ever heard of him. And if he wanted to be a winner so bad then he should have stayed with us we won Copa L and other trophies"

TBH, I actually think Arsenal could survive and maybe thrive in the long term without Cesc. It would force Ramsey and Wilshere to step up, and those two competing in the same midfield to be the leader could lead to some amazing stuff. The next year at least, and perhaps a few more however, would be worse.

As for what you're saying poet, using a 4-4-2 against weaker opposition isn't exactly a novel idea as Man U do it. If the idea had merit I'm sure Wegner would use it.

Oh and tits.
I agree on the Fabregas thing. If we sell him then Arsenal MUST spend and cover up areas we lack big time. Already the scenes with the fans don't look good. Ramsey stepping up would happen but I would like us to have on or two senior experienced players to lead the way. For example if we sign Parker who is 30 he would have 2 or 3 good seasons within that Ramsey matures more and ready to step in absolutely permanently.

As for tactical ideas Wenger isn't the most flexible. We are way too predictable.

By the way I watched Gotze. He is pure class. There's good amount of speculation of our interest in him. If we could get him I will be bouncing up and down. Not this term maybe next term.

Read that Arsenal are going to be "very active" in the transfer market. Wonder who they're considering. I'm pretty convinced that Eden Hazard is on his way, but wonder who you'll look for in defense and attack.

poet11

Oh and tits.
Just a few hours ago read that Hazard is considering staying at Lille. They just won the title and are playing in CL so......still until he arrives..... Theres unconfirmed news we signed some dude from Velez called Ricky Alvarez. Another Wenger sort unknown kid. In defense it seems as we are going for Samba or Cahill. In attack most possibly Kevin Gameiro.

Shifty give me a review on Mertesacker mate.

Heres a view of Ricky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrxSV5MeyE0

Mertesacker... slow, big, relatively smart and good with positioning, kind of young, but his body seems to have already started breaking down, injury prone. Big reputation, but probably doesn't fully deserve his spot as Germany's top defender anymore. I'd say injuries really hurt what could have been a special career.

Bayern picked van Buyten over him in 2006.

poet11

Oh and tits.
Then we better not move for him. I would prefer Cahill the most. He is young but a little overrated and overpriced. He is English and it could be a huge positive in the eyes of the media and the fans. Honestly we don't have the Britishness in the team and people don't take it well sometimes I've noticed.

Samir Nasri wants to see Arsène Wenger make a serious impact on the summer transfer market before he considers committing his future to Arsenal.

The France midfielder is at impasse over his new contract talks, having deemed the club's offer of around £90,000 a week, which has been on the table for some weeks, to be insufficient. The stand‑off has led to angst and frustration at the club.

But while Nasri wants more money, he is equally keen to see Wenger add big names to a squad that fell apart when the trophies beckoned at the business end of this past season. Nasri, whose own fine form slumped in the final months, is similar to many of the club's supporters in the respect that he feels Wenger has to buy some proven talent.

Nasri has entered the final 12 months of his contract and, while it has been unfortunate that Arsenal have allowed the situation to develop, it is worrying that the 23‑year‑old has now spoken of the interest in him from Manchester United, who are in the market for a creative midfielder following the retirement of Paul Scholes. It could be that Nasri is using United as a bargaining chip. Wenger, though, has made it clear that he would not contemplate selling the player to the Old Trafford club.

Nasri said in an interview at the beginning of March that it was "today or never" for Arsenal to win the Premier League title. Disappointment at their capitulation – they took only 12 points from the final 11 matches and finished fourth, 12 points behind United – led to him asking questions about the strength of character in the dressing room.
