This could be Arsenal's first big player making an escape. Wenger and the board should have known this is inevitable, 8 years with no trophy is too long

Team Captain
Clichy:

July 25th 2009: “I really believe if you are a player who thinks only about money then you could end up at Manchester City,” said Clichy. “You have to think if you want to play for a big club and have your image or if you want to play for a good club and earn big money. When you ask someone to move for something like £300,000 a week it is just crazy.”

However, it didn’t take Clichy long to realise that he was a player who only thought about too.

July 4th 2011: “I’m really happy to be joining such a great club,” said Clichy. “I hope I can add to the quality we already have here because we have a fantastic squad who I believe will continue to get better. I can’t wait to get started and I think anything is possible with this team.”

didn't take him long?

July 25th 2009:

Man City pre 09/10 season: nothing suggests that the new UAE billionaire's fling with the club will be any less of a flop than the previous Thai billionaire ...

Arsenal pre 09/10 season: Clichy is a bright prospect, playing for a young team aiming for the Champions League ...

July 4th 2011:

Arsenal pre 11/12 season: Gaël is no longer a fixture in the team ... the club need to still qualify for the Champions League ... the stars want to leave for teams that actually win trophies ...

Man City pre 11/12 season: in the Champions League proper, having tied on points with the runners-up Chelsea ... have the resources to assemble a squad to challenge for the trophy that counts, with the big ears ...

yeah, 09/10 to 11/12: not long, and nothing's changed ... Clichy is just a money-grubber ...

hah, of course ... the qualifier "just", or any logic shouldn't get in the way of that fact ...

Is Clichy really a "big" player? Not to me at all.

He starts for Arsenal so that's a big deal for them.

Also there is not many fantastic LBs, Evra is considered the best and we make him look average.

Of course he isn't "just" that, no one is "just" one thing. Jesus **** you're annoying.

point well-taken man: he should choose to work for less, or preferably free, at a lower-potential organization, like you and all the other non-money-grubbers do ...

Haha, who said I'm not a money-grubber? He went to City because of the money, that doesn't mean he did something wrong man, it just means he went to City because of the money.

hah niicee; that's how I'd have chosen to diffuse this argument if I were you ... genuinely, well done ...

excellent ... your "Wow." catchphrase signals the end of your ability to sustain a discussion ... good job ...

no need to explain yourself, buddy ... you did well to come up with posts that ignored key points I made in my previous posts ... I expected you to either continue making logically-bereft retorts, or to reach for your classic "Wow." card ... you didn't disappoint ...

I don't how I feel about this...he clearly never improved (regressed in fact) after 2008 when I thought he'll actually surpass the one at Chelsea to last season when I was sure Gibbs would actually take over his spot. Didn't happen and even if it did I would have wanted him to stay as backup. He still was an Invincible...the last one in fact.

Don't feel anything bad about him or any of the players who are likely to be next to gone this summer...wish he left the league and I wish his team the worst. Far from sad about him going so long as he's upgraded, unfortunately recent history suggests otherwise.
