Good start, I think that you have the base head shape pretty much nailed, I think that you need to clear up the texture a little bit (clear the hair from the forehead, reduce the colour in the cheeks) and then give him a shirt back and sides style hair cut, that one seems to be his older hair cut, a few years back. Oh and the trap muscle (neck) sticks out through the shirt a little bit.
Really really good start though, dont give up on him.
