20M for Fernando can be considered a high fee just because his contract expires next season and he doesn't really want to stay.
Because nowadays, when it comes to classical defensive midfielders, he is simply the best out there. I say it without hesitation, he'd be most difficult player for us to replace.
This is a good demonstration what he's been doing for us every single season, all season long:

His performance against ManU in the CL a few seasons ago when we drew 2-2 away is probably the best I ever saw from a Porto player. Ever. (see 0:46 to 1:15)

Nah, he keeps saying his dream is to play for the Brazilian NT. In fact that's his main argument to support the transfer request, he thinks the Portuguese League doesn't get enough attention in Brazil. Which is kind of stupid since it's not exactly true.

I just hope Fili and Massive won't spend the next season talking about how it's important for Monaco to get a Portuguese manager, demand the ASM logo to be in Porto-blue and how Monaco should "remain Primeira Liga Central" :(

Why? Splending so much cash on new players and not being able to participate in Ligue 1 would be devastating for them, players like Falcao etc wouldn't even have joined them in the first place if there was a problem like that.

They have to pay a shitload of money to do so. It's apparently a court case, and they'll probably win, but it's not sure that it'll get decided before the deadline for the registration closes. Even Platini has come out in a surprisingly correct manner, saying nobody cared when they weren't a threat.
