Leverkusen just knocked out Lazio with ease. Compared to Bayern everyone is shit, but compared to clubs in other leagues, there are good teams.
Chievo one-upped Leverkusen, and beat Lazio 4-0 ... the results are only indicative of Lazio's poor preparation when playing away from home ...

Why did Robben pick on Costa for that trick he pulled off? He wasn't mocking the opponents at all. Funny coming from someone who used to dive a lot.

This is why football was better 10 years ago or so. It's all about pace now. I truly think Ronaldo was a better player in his United days, before this obsession with stats.

Was better 10 years ago? Cry me a fvcking river, Italian fans think the game is always best when their teams are better than anyone else.

In 05/06 Barça won the Champions League and our #10 was the best player in the world, nothing has changed.

It's not about Italian teams at all. We were crap under Capello actually, despite the monster squad we had.

Of course, of course. And that this happens nearly every year is also meaningless?

Well compare Italian teams than, and now. Like comparing Tupac with Kanye West.

Yeah well Kanye is actually more of a musical genius, so that's not a good comparison.

I'm not gonna even start backing my argument here. I guess perspective changes everything.

As I said, it's not about Italian teams at all. And even before 2006 if you're still so bitter about that World Cup. It's about the players that era had. Zidane, Ronaldo, Henry, Scholes, Figo, Bergkamp, Raul, Mendieta, Rivaldo, Rui Costa, Nedved, Pires and so on. Players with incredible technique that weren't afraid to pull off stuff in big matches.

People get wet nowadays when Messi dribbles past one or two players but back then it was the norm. And I really don't understand the issue because I'm sure there's lots of talented players now too but they rarely do something out of the ordinary.

I remember when we faced Arsenal in the Champions League in 2006, there were videos of Henry trying to pull off a trick in training the week before, and I was hoping he won't do it the night we faced them. And guess what, he did it to Zambrotta.

It's obviously the "It was better back then" idea we hear when we talk abou sport, music, fashion and almost every other subject.

After 10 years you only remember the magic moments of those players, not some of the mediocre 0-0s they played in random matches. Beside Messi and Ronaldo who are over any generation in this game, you have Hazard, Neymar, Iniesta, Pogba, Robben, Reus, Bale, Suarez, James, Zlatan etc as players who can pull anything out of their hat in any match. You'll probably remember them 10 years later and say they were better than the players you'll watch at that moment.

I agree with Dytza but it is true that the top players now are more about efficiency than entertainmemt. Hazard, Messi, Reus and Bale do nit take on players like Okocha or Ronaldinho.
