Did EA change the file format or protection or something? We got nothing for this game 5 months after release.

The engine of the game has changed from Ignite to Frostbite and it's structure is completely different, so we can't use the same tools and modding process than other years. In fact we are only able to export some particular stuff and only in some cases import it to a different FIFA version, but it's completely impossible to edit that stuff and then import it back to the game this year. It is also possible to edit the database in order to insert new teams and players.

It is not possible to edit the database. It is possible to edit squads files, but the scope of things we can do is rather limited and this kind of modding has proven very buggy.
Inserting new teams is not possible. As I understand, it is only possible to "uncover" the teams "hidden" in the game archives but not included in the database, as in a few Chinese teams and placeholders for the Brazilian teams EA couldn't get rights for.

You're asking this after 6 months? xD

Anyway, yeah, modding FiFA is over, forever. Frostbite killed modding. Rest in Pieces FiFA

Something I had the most fun of has gone. After 14 years of modding footy game there is nothing to do with it. I'm not sure it will be back again, even though Frostbite will be changed to anything different in 3,4 years.

    No.

After 3 years, next version of Frostbite will get released. And it will continue forever.

    Sami, don't be apocalyptic man.

FIFA and PES community have always been able to come up with the knowledge and therefore tools to crack every new engine and file format.

I think, what's lacking right now is free time from the master minds.
You probably weren't even around but back in the day, FIFA 2001-2003 file formats were very different. Then EA changed them for FIFA 2004-2007 and guess what? The community did it again. And again in 2012 with the 'Next Gen' release for PC.

The difference is that back then, Ariel, Rinaldo, Scouser, and many other that aren't even around anymore had a lot more free time (and were a lot younger too LOL) to spend trying to crack it open.

But eventually, they will do it. Or someone else we don't even know about yet will. The Messiah, lol. Belive.

    Maybe for FiFA 18.

But so far, modding is dead. Not that I want it to, and part of me still has hope for modding returning. But then again, looks like no one's on to crack the code. Is EA silently stopping the modders?

Before we know it, the community will be up and running full speed again.
All it takes is one big breakthrough and then it will all begin.

Malloc was making huge progress, he already had a way to inject new content into the demo, unfortunately the final release was a bit different but he was working on it and then went radio silent in October :(

Hopefully it really happens. Hail FiFA modding.

Yeah, why did he became a ghost all of a sudden? Is EA taking down the modders so that we need to buy FiFA every year for new kits and faces?

    Cant be a coincidence.

There is a personal reason which was probably the cause, not related to EA, I don't want to break a confidence so I'm not going to say any more than that.

I still hope someone out there cracks the secret of Frostbite (although I think it was more the addition of The Journey that made the process harder, but it might be just me). Like it's been said, every time FIFA changed the engine and structure, the modding community found a way to make working modding tools. As someone who worked extensively with FEd and Creation Master, I can attest to that, with each version being more and more different than the last to accomodate to the engine changes.
As far as 08 we didn't need file regeneration to make sure our mods would work, for example. It only came in 11 when the PC version started using the Impact engine from the 7th-gen versions. What's one extra step on modding when you can make it work? Same was for Ignite. Maybe with Frostbite the eggheads will find a different way to regenerate the files, or something like that.

So I still have hope for next season, because I had an idea of making a FIFA 98-themed mod, and I would be bouncing off the walls if that were possible in time for the 20th anniversary of this game which is still amazing (despite it not having aged that well compared to 99), I still have, and miraculously works on my Windows 10.

Try running it on Compatibility Mode (Windows 98 / ME).
The menus are a bit slow, but the matches run pretty smoothly.

Look at the number of the threads sience fifa11.

The game is going down, even online it's full of cheaters, bugs and tipical idiotic things from EA.

My last one, 17 have a one finger thick dust on it, and it's truly the LAST one.
I didnt even play two seasons on it. They dont give a dime about career mode or modding. It's that hard to have a "mod" folder like in Sims or whatever, to put your stuff there and enjoy football? No, they are just lazy.
No modding, no fun. No fun, no money.

And dont lie to yourself, modding FIFA has ended. For good.

Tried it, still get the Insufficient Memory error.

The game requires atleast 1 GB. But I've got 16 GB, so I cant run the game since I don't have sufficient memory :(

    This is true.

Since they plan to use Frostbite for the rest of their life, hope is lost.
