I had another thought. In MVP Baseball they have a feature when you simulate a game, it brings up a scoreboard and you watch time pass during the game and see the score, at anytime you can break in and complete the game. So maybe you see your team fall behind and decide to break in and try and comeback. This would be another cool thing to add to FIFA. I know sometimes I just want to simulate through meaningless games, but half the time you end up losing a game that you know your team should win easily. peace.

how about some length.....madden has 30 years.....make it interesting...

comp teams getting better and worse as years progress new players showing up on comp teams after several years.

practice team squad....can be simulated should be able to choose from a short list of young players to add to the roster.

I think I can sum up the most important things to add in this post.

Career Mode:

An option for how long it is. I want to play all the games, but I don't want it to be always really long, for I don't have time to play it that much. Maybe anywhere from 5 to 100 years. Players age and retire. Young players can naturally improve (and a potential rating should be added, players with good potential such as Freddy Adu have a better chance of improving, when players get old or get bad injuries ratings go down. None of this training. It is unrealistic to take a random player and make him better at whatever you choose. A youth system please!

Realistic financial system. Players have contracts. When their contract expires, they have to be resigned. Of course if a player can choose to sign with a different team because of money or the ability to play on a higher level or displeasure with the team. I am confused by football's financial system in real life but their should be some way to deficit spend. All football teams are somewhat in debt, some do it too much and it can lead to ruin (such as my favorite club, Leeds). You should be able to lend and loan players. Computer teams should be able to be involved with each other in the transfer market. Companies pay to sponsor you, such as on your uniform (you also should be able to customize uniforms from year to year) or on billboards. If you're good, companies will want to sponsor you and pay lots of money. You should be able to build a stadium, set ticket, food, and merchandise prices.

Also, there should be coaching changes. Like Madden, there should be a preseason where you can choose opponents from around the world.

National competitions should be involved in the regular career mode. If you coach well, you get to manage the national team. Then, you can choose the roster of any player of that country. You can play cup qualifiers, the world cup, the Euro tournament, etc.

Please more leagues! They had some very poor leagues, like the Scandinavian ones, yet they left out some good ones, such as the Mexican, Aregentine, Greek, and Turkish! Some teams from these leagues are in the game but not you can't play with them in career mode.

For those of us that play MLS, for that league the financial system should work the way it does. In MLS there are limits to player wages, salary caps, and the youth is drafted from colleges.

Simulation needs to be WAY more realistic, teams like Real Madrid never make it far in Champions League.

You should be able to practice inside career mode. There needs to be captain select. More formations and strategies would be nice.

Gameplay:

In FIFA, the moves are terrible and don't work. They should change the system. In NBA Live, they have a freestyle control system. By pressing certain buttons you could do certain simple actions. The same should be for FIFA. For example, hold down shift and press a key and it does a stepover, or a chop, or a pullback, or any kicking the ball to the side with the outside of the foot, etc. However, the game MUST be realistic and the emphasis still has to been on passing.

Also, the passing and trapping should be more streamlined. It is difficult to effectively pass the ball through a defense and score. My goals are usually in the transition when my player gets past their midfield, sprints towards the goal with the defense backing up and giving him lots of space, then blasts it at the goal from 40 yards out. The only way to score is if you have lots of space, for it takes way to long to trap it and way to long to shoot it. if they make these actions just a little bit quicker, the gameplay will be way better and more realistic.

Other:

The menu needs to be better. You should be able to save replays, it really bugs me that you can't (or at least I don't know how). A creation center would be great, but the most important thing would be being able to edit players. There needs to be better cinematics. The 'feel' of a big game should be different from that of a normal game. If there is any way to increase the drama, it should be added. Maybe momentum should be added into the gameplay. If your team was down and now just scored 3 goals to come back, momentum should carry over. Or, like in WC2002, if you score an important goal, dramatic music should play. Anything that can be done to separate a regular game from an important one should be done.

You should be able to add mp3s and make it the menu music.

I think that's about it, hopefully I didn't leave out anything too important. If I did, I guess I'll just edit this post. Someone should forwards this to EA Sports. Do they look at this forum? They really should.

Edit: Champions League needs to be randomized.

All of these refer to the console version of the game, specifically PS2.

1. Youth Team management in Career Mode, also ability to bring youth players into 1st team for tournament play and exhibition matches.

2. Transfer Market: CPU makes independent transfers; players’ happiness/dissatisfaction affects it, contract negotiations for extensions and free unattached players.

3. Stadiums: Please get Celtic Park. Besides the major leagues, try to get one or two major stadiums for the other leagues. For example the Home Depot Center for MLS where they can play cup finals and such.

4. Madden-like options in the running of a team in Career Mode, but one that keeps in mind the nuances and culture of soccer rather than a carbon-copy.

5. Career Mode is up to 30 years or so. You must start out with a lower profile or created team and work your way up through the ranks with contracts from different clubs being offered. Players age and retire, and talent levels ebb and flow. New players come in through youth leagues.

6. Options to create teams and players.

7. If you cannot get the licenses, at least have similarly formatted competitions to the CL, UEFA Cup, and World Cup, available not only to play in tournament mode but also Career mode.

8. Ability to coach and manage a national team during Career mode or have its own type of Career mode. In both versions the manager should control the call-ups, and players can decline or retire to make it realistic, perhaps even schedule friendlies.

9. More national teams available, Eircom League from Ireland, at least one lower division for Scottish and other European leagues, and an expansion set up for the MLS in Career mode to mirror the expansion of the MLS in the real future.

10. Bicycle tricks and dribbling moves seemed to be diminished from FIFA 2003. Please improve these areas of game play.

11. Ability to choose who wears the Captain’s armband before all types of game modes, and who to give it to when subs occur.

12. Weather, location, and time options for Exhibition matches.

13. Individual player and coach awards at the end of a season.

I understand there are a lot and some are complex but if 4 or 5 major ones make it into 2005 you have a loyal customer.

El Diablo Rojo

Starting XI
For the console games on Career mode.

-First of all career being longer, 20-30 years.

-Being able to select captain instead of being random(i noticed at times it was one from the bench) and also in match, you know if the captain gets injured or something being able to choose who will be the captain.

-Option to select the order of kickers in penalties definitions.

-Being able to manage numbers of the players(some get messed up after transfers)

-A practice mode inside the career mode, with penalties too.

-Keepers should be able to carry bookings, getting red cards, getting injured and be able to kick free kicks, penalties, etc.

-Other teams and even from other leagues to buy and sell players and use them when you sell one too.

-Getting offers from different teams to be the manager.

-Being ables to negotiate with teams from ALL the leagues in the game.

-Getting offers from different sponsors.

-Players being called to play in their national team to play international matches, and you being able to allow it or not(like some coaches don't allow their players at times).

-Have a list for the players with no contract or that got released, and being able to contract them.

-Different jerseys depending the weather, like if it's cold they'd use long sleeves, and if it's hot they'd use short sleeves.

i want caree mode to go on for EVER!
salary points for players are deducted for each game
the more goals u score, the more money u get, i mean a 1-1 draw is not the same as a 8-0 win
players retire and new players come in (yes, i'm talking about an age system)
the rest u can look for in PES:p

Well, everything I write here has probably been said, but maybe if enough people repeat the same things EA will know these things are impotant.

Career mode is a good start but it is much too "player-centric" - it's all about what you do or do not do and other teams have no real influence on that. The transfer market needs a dramatic overhaul, as I think that's the most fun part of the game. Forget prestige points, those need to go. You need to get monetary rewards for reaching goals - think of it as sponsorship. I'm taking Brøndby through the career (duh) and I've won two CL's and am on my way to a third - you think I might earn a little more money? Other teams should get these rewards too. I've gotten some pretty good players on my team like Alan Smith, Jon Dahl Tomasson, and Thomas Sørensen while the rest of the Danish League has remained exactly as it always has been, even though København has done well. It ceases to be much of a challenge. Other teams should be making deals with each other as well. Player-for-player deals should be allowed, as should multiple players for one player and a player and cash for a player. When your team does well it should increase interest in your players. Nobody seems to have interest in my players despite my triumphs, but look at how Porto is getting raided after they won the CL. Free agents are a must.

You must be offered jobs when you are doing well. Can you say, "Jose Mourinho?" Eventually you get sick of winning the Danish league perpetually, maybe I'd like to take over Bolton and see what I can do in the EPL.

Back to the idea of a real world going on around you, the game should keep track of the performance of other players in other leagues. This should influence their price.

Age needs to be a factor. Ollie Kahn shouldn't be the best keeper in the world when he's 40. Players should start young, get better, top out, decrease in ability, then retire. Injuries will contribute to this. Older players who can't keep up with their teams will be traded down as in real life (Baggio, Barthez for instance).

The weekly training thing is stupid. Players don't get better because you choose for them to get better. Player improvement should be based on age, ability, and regular playing time. Thus Rooney, at age 18 and already rated 83 in the game, should eventually get much higher. Youth teams must be incorporated.

FIX FATIGUE. It's ridiculously over the top. My best player is Smith but I can only use him every other week for all intents and purposes. Fix morale too, why the heck does someone's morale go down when you sub them in?

International play should be factored in. Players will be called up and you may be offered a national team job. Not necessarily with your nation; think of Scolari and Rehhagel and Eriksson.

This is more general to the game but don't cheat to make the game more difficult. Why is Gigi Buffon so incompetant when he's in my goal? Why can bench players from the Belgian League catch Henry? This is so frustrating. EA should reward clever purchases and improvement, not negate them just because you're playing world class. If I can run rings around Frem because I won championships and bought good players, those are the breaks.

To be continued probably.

This is brilliant stuff Brondby. This is exactly what I am talking about. I have been reading the previews for NCAA Football and Madden for this season and it just frustrates me to see how far their career modes have come and know how lacking FIFA's is. Especially considering how much money FIFA has to work with. It is time for FIFA to make massive improvements. I am right with you on the transfer market as I have stated before. I also appreciate your comments about fatigue. It had to be the most annoying thing in any game I have ever played. It is a brilliant idea, but so poorly implemented. I played with ManU and I could hardly ever play Van the Man because of fatigue. HELLO, Van Nistelrooy plays nearly every game if he isn't hurt, he is the center of the squad. I can't afford to only play him half of the games. I hope, and I mean really, really hope, EA is listening!

I'd like to see teams recieve offers from Sponsors, kind of like how you got TV Contracts in Madden depending on your success, as well as the ability to choose your captain, and I think the Career mode should be longer. Also, everything Brondbyfan said! ;)

They won't make career mode for FIFA better. It will always be horrible. This way we'll shell out money for two games (TCM and FIFA).

Brondbyfan had a great post and everything that ive been thinking about for days now.... They should fix the transfer market to more like madden... Look he sais have it player for player, payers for players, player for players , have money for players... There should be a free agent for each league, because of youth teams and younger players... older players should possibly be put in there aswell cuz they are too old and teams dont want them. Have other teams do transfers too and have players from other leagues get better etc....Thats the first big improvement they need... The second is earning money. We should earn money through spnderships, parking, tickets (by seating), Stands, merchandise (sp), etc... and use the money for staffing, medical team, buying players, "raises", Keeping the pitch good, keeping the stadium clean, advertising, maybe a new team uniform, Better training like actually training with your team, like mini camp with madden, running, shooting, dodging etc... well thats it for now so i'l be back later to add more.........

i think sponsors should be a big actor in the game because that and £30mil offloads is how a team earns money

e.g. say celtic win the champios leauge fist they should get money for winnig it plus more money from the chairman and bourd to maintain their big status plus more arttactive club for players to got to e.g.

Davids will choose Juve over Celtic because of their bigger status

but because they had sucsess he willl choose celtic over juve unless other reasons lik morey money better first team etc..

AND The club should be more attractive for sponsors

EA know all this because they put it all in total club manager

but the sponsor part will be hard nbecause in madden the sponsors aint on the shirts but on fifa they are and they have 400+ sponsors for all the teams in the game

ohh and the abillity to creation center with pemade nike, adidas, reebok, umbro, puma, joma, lecoqusportif, diadora, lotto, etc..
so if luton get into europe they chould aquire a better kit design because of their reputation

plus if chelsea get religated there reputation will go down so they wont be able to aquire umbro , nike adidas kits etc

Brondbyfan

Senior Squad
Yes I agree, I think the ability to design your kit from year to year would be a neat feature, and would be an easy way to incorporate different sponsors.

I'd also like to see an element of randomness with other teams in the league, so that events that happen in real life happen in the game. For example, a club could have bad luck, go into debt, get relegated, and have to sell off their best players (Leeds). Or, you could have bad luck, and a team gets a new billionaire owner like Abramovich and your opponents now have more money than you.

A more player or managerial aspect cos 2004's career mode was inbetween so maybe if you choose the player aspect you are more directed to who you are playing next game and player comments on how they feel instead of the transfer market and sub etc.

I'd like to see age finally actually make an impact in player's rise/decreasement of abilities, especially now that career mode will last 15 years.

I'd like to have every career mode glitch fixed!!! Pleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaseeeeeeeee!!! for example,

1. if you really scored more than 50 goals in the season, you should be able to get the points you deserve to get.

2. the injury problem glitch and the injury solution glitch.

3. disappearing stats.

4 sometimes it says "L" on the fixture when you really won that game.
And some others:

1. Can carry more subs to the game. (more than 5)
2. longer sound tracks
3. like someone said, practice inside career mode. but practice may also affect players abilities.

YOU SHOULD ALSO BE ABLE TO BUY YOUR TEAMS "PROFESSIONAL GEAR" WITH CAREER MONEY.

-Career mode - The computer makes transfers too. I don't want to be a 3rd division team that has enough money for a player like Beckham. and even if i did have the money, Beckham should certainly not want to move to a club like mine if it's bad.
-More than 5 years of career.
-I would like to be able to change my jersey and the sponsor on it.
-I should be able to buy players from Rest Of The World.
- I should be able to use the Brazilian clubs in career mode.
-I should recieve money not "prestige" and i should be able to try and make as many transfers per day as i want.
- The career objectives should actually have an input on my career. For example, If I don't reach any of the objectives, I should get fired.
- I should get offers from other clubs for a manager position.
- I should be able to see the top goal scorer of the WHOLE league, not just my own team.
- When I look at the league table, I should be able to see the total points right away and not need to scroll sideways for it.
- There should be a morale and condition meter like in TCM 2004 and they should affect the player's skill
- If I actually finish a season successfuly , I should get some sort of a reward as a manager.
- When my whole career finishes, I shouldn't be just taken to the main menu, that's pointless.
- Teams like Manchester United or Chelsea should not get relegated when they're one of the best teams in the league.
