CL group C: Benfica vs Man Utd [P+R]

Senior Squad

Benfica team news:

"Benfica is at full strength for the encounter at the Stadium of Light.

The Portuguese club is in second place in the league after signing a raft of new players. They include striker Nolito from Barcelona, Brazilian midfielder Bruno Cesar from Corinthians, and Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay from Real Madrid.

Belgium international Axel Witsel and Serbian player Nemanja Matic have also helped strengthen the midfield alongside Javi Garcia.

United winger Nani said Benfica is a tougher prospect than it was in the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, when Manchester United won three and lost one Champions League encounter with the Portuguese club."

United team news:

"Four straight wins have put them top of the table and their haul of 18 goals is the highest tally after four English top-flight games since Wolverhampton Wanderers plundered 20 in as many matches in 1947.

United will be without midfielder Tom Cleverley, who sustained a foot injury in that game and will be out for a month. England defender Rio Ferdinand, who has struggled with a series of injury problems, also missed the trip to Lisbon.

Captain Nemanja Vidic (calf), striker Danny Welbeck (hamstring) and Rafael (shoulder) are also out, but defenders Jonny Evans and Patrice Evra are fit again after minor knocks."

I wonder how many times I have read in the past 2 years that Rio Ferdinand is missing through injury. I'd love to see a statistic of how many full matches he has played in the past two years and how many he could have played in. I mean wiki tells me he has played in 31 of a possible 76 league games, but I wonder how many of them even have been from the bench or him substituted. Its such a shame.

Jesus actually said this is the best United team ever. hahaha, I mean of course they're great, and if it was almost any other team he'd probably be right, but it's Manchester-*******-United :D

It's easy to understand why he said that, in case his team gets raped tonight he can always claim it happened against "the best United team ever" :clapwap:

0-5

Tough match, i believe in our players but our coach...

Jesus only knows how to put players on the pitch if someone blocks Aimar Jesus has a brain fart. He doesnt have a plan A, B, C or D. So thats it.

What was that line up... guess you cant complain drawing away and finally gave all those players a chance to play.

I have to admit Lindegaard looked pretty good. Just didn't like how he kept smacking the ball up the pitch.

When I saw the team lineup I was like WTF. 8 big changes from the team that had an orgasmic start to the season. That team looked like our first team of last year excluding the defence and you could see we were having the same kind of problems we had in away games last season.

1 point away is still satisfactory though. On the positive side, we rested 8 first team players. Good stuff.

Seems that SAF prioritized the match against Chelsea.

Can't complain so much about a draw. Good away result about our strongest rival in this group.

However, neither Carrick nor Fletcher were impressive, I don't know who will fill that spot against Chelsea. They both did lots of bad passes and didn't see good movements.

Lindegaard did great, I hope it motivates De Gea more. Did you see how Fegie became bad when the interviewer asked him whether he'll play Lindegaard against Chelsea.

I can understand why Fergie started with that line-up. This was the hardest CL match we'll have before the 1/8 finals. We should concentrate on the EPL until things get tuffff in Europe.

Fletcher and Carrick were horrible as ever, midfield is still a problem. Lindegaard did well, definately our number two before the PIG.
