Yeah, that's why I included "the".

You don't say "The Slovenia" but "the" works before USA because of the word United.

You do say The Iraq apparently though, but only in South Carolina :D hahahahaha

I remember when I first signed up here, over a decade ago, and asked ShiftyPowers out for a fight. For no apparent reason.

Hehe the "Team USA" is something that makes me laugh a bit. Why do Americans so often add "Team" to the start of a national team name?

There are only four countries aside from the USA that i know of that interchangeably use the definite article in English: (the) Gambia and (the) Ukraine, (the) Bahamas, (the) Philippines

The Ukraine is actually incorrect. English people just add it for some reason.

You missed the UK. Remember, although people often use Great Britain as a synonym, it's technically not correct. As it only includes the main island (hence United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland).

Yes, but the UK is the same as the USA. It refers to the United part of the political configuration. ;)

Ukraine also has an etymology which means border-land. I don't know if in english it's just an expansion of The Crimea.

Yes it did, as the Bahamas refers to the group of islands.

At the end of the day, it's because it's referring to group.

You missed the Netherlands too.
