Copa América 2007: Argentina vs. United States[P+R].

FIFA didn't force clubs in Europe to release Americans and Mexicans.
And not just clubs in Europe - any clubs. I think Bradley had talked Donovan into playing in Copa America, but the Galaxy refused to let him go.

Very disappointed with Argentina today, I didn't expect such a bad performance. Veron should be given the boot, and Aimar should be given his spot. Poor performance by Messi today though (N)

Is usual that big teams as Brazil or Argentina show weak starts like this.

As the cup goes on ... I'm sure they will get better. In Argentina's case ... well it wasn't a huge motivation to play against the sub team of the US that came only to play defense and wait.

If Paraguay wins their match against United States, Colombia, who will face Argentina next, will be forced to attack from the kick-off, so more likely it'll be a lot different.

But overall the important thing is that this team could re-open the match in the second half and got the 3 points.

Damn, I thought the Fed could force the issue domestically.

For the southamerican clubs it was slightly different, the clubs were forced to release the players 14 days before of the overture of the cup. Which shows some dullness from the CONMEBOL because teams playing the last stages of the Libertadore were affected by it, however clubs could keep their players if the national team coaches allowed it, like in the case of Boca.

24 goals in 6 matches, an average of 4 goals per match.:wootman:

I though Zanetti didn't play that bad, he did his job. Aimar was great, when he came in Argentina kicked ass. Crespo is his usual class self, he never seems that special but he almost ALWAYS delivers the goal when it comes to him, pretty ******* great. Messi tried hard but the team didn't click. I agree to take out Veron, because they have Riquelme for that role (playmaker) and he does a good job of it. Tevez should start. Cambiasso was pretty ineffective.

I was honestly surprised we lasted 60 minutes with that line-up. It's a shame we didn't bring our A-team to see how we matched up against this great Argentina side. Oh well, we'll still be in the Confederations Cup now won't we, something that no other team in the Americas can say as of right now (H)(Y)

What i think was the problem with Zanetti, Heinze and Cambiasso compared with the rest is that they seemed to be in a hurry to be up in score, while the rest were patient, Zanetti in particular i don't think he did that bad either, except in a play where from the wing he went to the front of the box and ended up fouling a player too close of the box. About Heinze and Cambiasso besides that it wasn't a particular good match of them while they've had better matches than this one, but it didn't really matter since everybody else was fine.

The problem with Zanetti is that as sson as he makes a mistake part of the media will jump on him quickly seeing as Ibarra is on the bench.

Great result...but it was an average performance.

I think we need to get rid of one Midfielder...and add Tevez or Aimar...

Roman was great.

Crespo: First game ever in Copa America, 2 goals. 34 in 63 games with the absolute National Team.

Crespo's clutch.

Scored as expected the US had no offense, you know in the first half it was just a matter of time before Argentina scored they had all the possession eventually there gonna break the defence.

I thought Veron did alright, especially nailing the crossbar, if Keller didn't touch that it would've been top corner. Yeah, I know, woulda coulda shoulda, but I thought he was okay other than that. And Messi wasn't necessarily poor, I think Bornstein just did a great job keeping him tame. The crowd went nuts every time he touched the ball and Bornstein didn't let him do anything special.

Yes, I agree with the Messi part. He had one man marking him all the time, and when he turned around he had 2 other players closing him down. The thing is that there are games where I know he is going to do great right from the start, and yesterdays was not one of them.

First I'll give credit to the USA for their play in the first 55 minutes.
They're game plan was clearly to sit back with all 11 players in their half and play the counter. They double and triple teamed Messi. They converted on their first and only real chance of the game. I was very dissapointed with Gabi Milito the whole match, he just wasn't fast enough.

When Argentina woke up and played to our level of quick passing USA was no match, Cambiasso was very bad also IMO, he and Veron didn't connect well to te rest of the team.

Mascherano, Riquelme, Crespo, Ayala, and Messi in the second half were our best players.

I would have loved to play USA's first team because I don't think they would have played so far back and defended the whole time, I think it would have in turn opened our game up more, and Argentina would have played better. Oh well, maybe next time.
