It's not the 70s or 80s, International football is not the apex of the sport anymore . Other than national pride there isn't much evidence to make the case of the World Cup being greater than the Champions League.

If Zidane's World Cup being the end and all is still the hill you want to die on, would you put Pirlo, Xavi and Iniesta ahead of him? They all won the World Cup and multiple Champions Leagues.
