Good luck vs. Liga de Quito (pretty much free pass to semis  )

You think? IMO, if they play like they played both games against us and don't get any help from the ref, I see Liga going through fairly comfortably.

What a game I missed! Higuain's first goal was beautiful, perfect set-up by Gallardo.(Y) I'm very happy we ended our road-victory drought, and now hopefully we can maintain this form heading into the games vs. Libertad.

4) Snyper, on top of what you said, when Corinthians scored, they showed 2 Boca fans hugging the Corinthians fans and singing. Swear Boca fans are too funny at times.

I wouldn't expect anything else from bosteros... They can keep watching the copa on TV.

not only that, Corinthians' record at the Pacaembu for the Libertadores was 16 wins, 1 draw, 0 losses...

Thanks for ruining it :(

1 thing, Corinthians fans are pathetic. They act as if Corinthians getting eliminated was a travesty (as if they were an "elite team"). Please, Nacional is a 3 X World and Libertadores champion and youll NEVER see any fan do what they did (it was incredible)
one thing has nothing to do with the other.

well emmer's right about the fans attacking the door, but what I meant was the fans going in the field and swearing at their players as they've done something "incredible" that they lost

But this players are the most expensive players of brazil. They are paid a lot of money, and they looked like they didnt care about losing...

And if they lose against Sao Paulo i think a few player and the coach will :ewan: :ewan:

what axolote said = (Y)

the team was ridiculous, they could have done way better.

i'm not disrespecting river (it would something be really stupid to do after that match), but the loss (and such a BIG loss like that) was something actually "incredible" for most people in brazil, corintianos or not -- the more "pessimists" guessed a draw.

the club is totally fücked up.

I have to miss next week's game (Thursday) vs. Libertad too. :nape: The return legs will be played after the WC, which is quite odd, they should just play out both legs.

Ok, it's official being an Estudiantes fan is a risk for the health.:funny:

No one pointed out the horrible conditions of Independiente de Santa Fe's pitch, due the weather, it was kind of funny.

Vélez and Newell's once again gave kind of an interesting match, but at some point it looked like the ref was kind of biased too, however it was far for Vélez being in the quarter finals.

Corinthians-River's match was quite entertaining, good match of Higuain and Caceres, too bad Tévez didn't do a lot, at least got a shot that ended up in a pretty good save of Lux. Too bad that the match had to end that way, but at least good to see that the Police did something, if it would have been in Argentina then River's players would have needed briefs made of iron, literally:p.

Vélez will be in a strange situation because the first leg will be at Mexico and Chivas will not have the 6 players that will be on the national team, but in the 2nd leg they would have them back but that match will be in Argentina, this could be a slight adventage for Vélez or not.

So the matches of the quarter finals will be:

Chivas Guadalajara(MEX) vs. Vélez Sarsfield(ARG)
LDU Quito(ECU) vs. Internacional(BRA)
River Plate(ARG) vs. Libertad(PAR)
Estudiantes LP(ARG) vs. São Paulo FC(BRA)

This means that Argentina has 3 teams, Brazil 2, Paraguay, Ecuador and Mexico got 1. So the 4 countries that qualified to the world cup got at least 1 team on the quarter finals, and the rest that didn't qualify didn't get even one.

one of the linesmen in the River x Libertad match gave an offside after a pass that came from a throw in.

by the way, awesome Banner/Sig thing (Goku one).

2) River/Libertad was a HELL OF A MATCH. Great stuff from both teams and Farias might have saved River with that end of game header.

3) The refs were terrible (and I hear the main ref will be at the World Cup :S)

I must admit I'm very impressed with Libertad's performance in the cup so far. Normally the only Paraguayan team that doesn't fear anybody in the Libertadores is Olimpia but Libertad is starting to show that mentality.

Against River it was like a battle for Libertad, they were fighting like warriors to get the ball and defend. The 2-2 draw is not a bad result for them, I'm excited to watch the next game.

edit: and what about Estudiantes? They are showing their "history" in the Copa right now.

Estudiantes have been the lucky bastards this year, getting goals in the last 10 min on several occasions, but they have played very well at times :jap:

QUARTERFINALS 2nd Leg

Tuesday, July 18, 2006
TIME HOME AWAY
01:15 UK Libertad v River Plate (1st leg: 2-2)

Wednesday, July 19, 2006
TIME HOME AWAY
23:15 UK Internacional v LDU Quito (1st leg: LDU 2-1)
01:45 UK São Paulo v Estudiantes La Plata (1st leg: Estudiantes 1-0  )

Thursday, July 20, 2006
TIME HOME AWAY
01:45 UK Vélez Sarsfield v Guadalajara (1st leg: 0-0)

The pairings for the semis are: Libertad/River vs Inter/LDU and Tricolor/Estudiantes vs Vélez/Chivas. Both Braziliam teams will try to tevert an one-goal margin at home. It would be neat, BTW, to get two Brazilans sides vs two Argentinians, even though in our partciuar case it'd be good to have the chance to prove we can actually beat Chivas...

As for São Paulo match, Estudiantes is a rather lousy team but full of courage (on the first leg it's almost funny how reckless they were, not violent but fighting for every ball like it was the last one). A goal-less draw on the first match would have been a great result; however we had to take that dam late goal :nape: . Now we have to enter the pitch with all guns firing aiming to open a two goal lead ASAP; or else we will have deep trouble (counters especially are scary, BOTH Lugano and André Dias were sent off at first leg BTW).

Hermanos latinos, the thread is all yours to comment... :sun:

Well, since these matches are all two months after the first leg lets not forget that most of the teams have lost players in the transfer market.

Chivas lost Salcido (PSV), Johnny Garcia (Queretaro), Armas (Chiapas) and Barrera (Queretaro). While Velez has lost Gracian (Monterrey) and I think Zarate. And Castroman is out cuz of injury.
