.Craig Bellamy claims Newcastle United manager Graeme Souness is trying to turn the Toon faithful against him but insists he will not demand to leave St James' Park.
The Wales international's future on Tyneside appears bleak after another bust-up with Souness over the weekend.
Souness omitted the pacey forward from the team which lost to Arsenal on Sunday after revealing Bellamy was not fit to feature at Highbury.
Bellamy refuted his manager's claims but has acknowledged he did say he would feign injury to ensure he would not have to play out of position on the wing.
The former Norwich City ace has repeatedly been deployed on the right flank since Souness took over from Sir Bobby Robson in September and he has regularly voiced his discontent about the situation.
He now claims Souness is striving to drive him out of St James' Park by trying to turn The Magpies' fervent support against him.
"I've kept my nose clean when I've been asked to to play out of position and I've done it," Bellamy told Sky Sports News.
"I've rose above it and tried to do as best as I can for this club.
"It seems I am not particularly wanted by a certain person and the only way he can be seen to do it is to turn the fans against me.
"I've got belief that the Newcastle fans know how much I want to play for them."
Bellamy accepts discussing his plight at the Premiership club in a candid interview with Sky Sports News is likely to put the final nail in his Newcastle coffin.
But the frustrated attacker is adamant he will not ask to leave The Magpies and has reiterated that he did not refuse to play against The Gunners.
He added: "It's going to be tough now. I think coming on here hasn't helped me in that sense but I believe that I had to do this just for myself, to have a look at myself and say I've been honest, put both arms in the air and you can't demand any more from yourself.
"The situation has probably gone a bit too far.
"I've got two-and-a-half years left on my contract and, when I signed it, it was to be here for that length of time.
"I'd never ask to leave because this club means too much to me.
"I've not really thought about it to be honest. I just want to come across and say I never once refused to play out of position.
"Why would I decide that after 20-odd games, at Arsenal, against the best players, the one team you want to play against because they are the best. It frightens me that people will even think about it."
I dunno if this has been posted but wats everyone s take on the whole bellamy situation. He sounded quite sinsere on his sky sports interview but freedy shepherd has said he will be punished. I think newcastle shud do everthing they can do 2 hold on to him instead of him cus he is probally our best player wen he gets played up front and we showed a real lack of pace up front against arsenal so in my opinion as a newcastle fan myself i think it wud be a huge mistake 2 put him on the transfer list
