Crash When Starting New Career After Using CM

Hey guys, I realise this question may have been answered already (a lot of people seem to have this issue) but after spending several hours looking for the right thread, I've yet to find it, so here it goes.

I've used CM before, it's a fantastic tool and I can't thank the creator enough. Last week, after making a series of edits to player names and attributes, as well as team budgets, stadiums and a handful of kits, the game started to crash whenever I tried to start a new career (both manager and player).

I used the Origin option to restore the game and all of its databases to the original (begrudingly) and tried again, editing a couple of players, adding some kits and editing one team. Tried to start a new career mode, which worked perfectly. Spent a few hours doing more edits (nothing structural, I didn't add any teams or leagues) and now that I'm through editing, I once again can't start a new career mode. When the game crashes, there's no error code, just straight to desktop.

Is it possible I'm making too many edits here? All I'm doing is changing a few player names and nationalities, changing their attributes and giving some smaller teams bigger budgets and different stadiums.

Any help would be appreciated, and once again ,thanks for this wonderful tool.

Cheers,
Hofdichter.

CM has been less and less stable since EA changed the file table format 2 years ago. Especially if you try and edit teams' formations and lineups; EA added 3 new formations tables and CM isn't coded to handle the extra tweaking that's required to properly edit those tables. I now do all my player/team/formation editing in DBM; it's more work but I know my edits will work because I edit each table manually.

All you can do with CM is edit a bit, test in-game, edit some more, test again, etc. Save backup copies each time so that if your next set of edits crash the game, you can just reload the last db that still worked. And if you want to see if you can pinpoint the exact issue, try this: Choose a team to test in career mode, and edit just that team and its players. Start with names: edit the names of 3 players, then save and test in-game. If it works, then edit their nationalities, and test in-game. If career mode still works, choose the next thing to edit, etc. and so forth.

CM damages the schedule file of the compdata when it saves, you need to back up your compdata folder before editing.
