Many people complain about the disparity between the easy difficulty settings and World Class, which is too difficult and unrealistic.
Well, I found an easy way to edit the gameplay difficulty of fifa. Anyone can do it with a simple notepad file. Anyone can personalize a sufficient amount of the gameplay difficulty. Unlike some patches, this is a SAFE way to change the game and make it fun to play--no crashing! I doubt I'm the first person to discover this, but I think this is the first time it's being explained here.

So this thread is in a way a continuation of two other threads; If you're interested in editing other elements of FIFA, PLEASE read these:
Any way for AI to make substitutions?
more fouls and bookings

...but I decided to start a new thread because it deals with new issues.

First of all thanks to everyone who participated in these threads, especially Ronaldotjuh and Triple J. for their valuable imput.

So here is how you do it:

1-Open EA SPORTS\FIFA 2005\data\cmn\ini.big
2-Open Notepad (create a new file--or if you know what you're doing, use your already created locale.ini file).
3-Cut and paste the following codes to from ini.big to the new notepad file:

[CPUWC]
CPU_BAD_DRIBBLE_PERCENT = 3
CPU_BAD_PASS_PERCENT = 3
CPU_BAD_SHOT_PERCENT = 10
CPU_AVOID_TACKLE_PERCENT = 100
CPU_SETPLAY_AGGRESSION = 75
CPU_SETPLAY_ACCURACY = 75
CPU_GOALIE_SKILL = 60
CPU_BAD_TACKLE_PERCENT = 5
CPU_BAD_MARKBALL_PERCENT = 5
CPU_TACKLE_DIST = 300
CPU_INTERCEPT_SKILL = 2
CPU_CLOSEDOWN_SPEED_SCALE = 125
CPU_CLOSEDOWN_TIME_SCALE = 50
CPU_GOOD_CLOSEDOWN_PERCENT = 90
CPU_NORMAL_SPRINT_PERCENT = 30
HUMAN_GOALIE_SKILL = 50
HUMAN_TACKLE_DIST = 64
HUMAN_INTERCEPT_SKILL = 1

4. Save the new notepad file as locale.ini and put it in your MAIN Fifa 2005 folder.

Ok, now keep in mind that the codes I just posted are the DEFAULT settings for World Class difficulty. So... if you have followed along with my steps so far, you have NOT really CHANGED ANYTHING yet.
But... if you think world class is too hard, and unrealistic, you can, and will adjust the settings. Change any of the number values. Make sure the ones that end in percent do not exceed 100. Look in the ini.big file at the different difficulties and get an idea of the different ranges of difficulty that are possible.

Once you have changed whatever values you want, save the locale.ini file again and now you HAVE adjusted the gameplay. You can try them out and then readjust them. Remember, when you try it out, make sure you're playing WC difficulty, because that's what you've changed.

One thing you will notice is that in this default WC setting, the CPU goalie skill is higher than the HUMAN goalie skill. This is one thing that I would definitely change. I would also change the CPU avoid tackle percent, which is unfairly set at 100%, and the human intercept skill, which is set at 1, compared to the computer's which is 2.
The items in the list are fairly self explanatory.
You will see in the ini.big file the easiest setting which is the first one and they get harder. *Remember, do NOT edit anything in the ini.big file! In fact, I would make a backup copy of it.* The codes look like they would mean Beginner, Amateur, Professional, World Class and Perfect, but that doesn't match the actual names of the difficulty settings within the game. So these are my proposed definitions.

[CPUBG] (Amateur)
[CPUAM] (Semi-Pro)
[CPUPR] (Professional)
[CPUWC] (World-Class)
[CPUPF] (Perfect CPU)

The bigger the changes you make, the more you will notice obviously. So have fun and play around with it!

hey

hey, what happen if you do that what you're saying and you play with another guy trough online or trough ip.

If you're the host, the settings that you change affect the game?.

I don't know.
Try it out.
If it doesn't work, or your friend doesn't like it, all you have to do is delete the locale.ini file. It's easy. ;)

have a little patience and read it. i promise you will notice a difference.

a

its really simple to make this.

Just add a locale.ini new file to the main fifa2005 folder with those lines.

I wonder if the referee stricness change anything, at least the "no crazy trough-ball pass" works good.

If it is not working, try this (a bit complicated):

1) Go to the data folder in FIFA 2005
2) BACKUP, and then open zdata_16.big using a BIG editor.
3) Extract aicpu.big from this file, and then open aicpu.big in a BIG editor (you don't have to back it up because it is already backed up from step 2 ;) )
4) Extract and edit the .ini files here as you please.

To be honest, i don't know if the ini files in data/cmn work in this game. Go into ini.big and try editing the ai.ini file, and you will see that it doesn't change anything in the game (test it out with the pitch size). Has anyone been able to determine that the other files in hat directory actually affect the game?

I prefer to edit the locale.ini and ai.ini inside of config.dat to be honest. This way i am absolutely sure that my changes will take effect.

Hi AEKARA,

Pls ignore my question in the earlier post. I had found the INJURY_PERCENTAGE's parametre. It is in the ini.big.

The default is 15. I had set it to 30.

Thank & Cheers!

sorry for the late reply, I haven't checked this thread in a while.

there is also another parametre called Winded_Percentage. I'm sorry I can't remember exactly where it's located.
It is the percentage of players being winded (instead of actually injured). When players are winded they lay on the pitch for a long time after contact, but they eventually get up (they are not injured).

What I do is raise the Injury_Percentage up to about 40 or 50 and raise the Winded_Percentage up to about 85. This way, when bumped or fouled, players are injured/winded 85% of the time, but only REALLY INJURED (and have to leave the game) 15% of 85% they are bumped. Get it?

Hi AEKARA,

Welcome back!

Thank you for your advice! I will insert the winded parametre to 85% and my Injury to 50% to make it more interestng!

Happy Kicking ! :) ;)

hi kevinti,
thanks x help... but it doesn't work with your code even! :(

I should perhaps insert this code in ai.big in config.dat and in ini.big too???

Hi oba-oba,

Sorry about that! If it's not in localal.ini, then I really can't remember hot to do it. I did come accross last year "how to ..." but can't remember now.

I think it should be in the original big.ini, change the value to 1. There is a Big raptor/gui that allow you to edit he big.ini directly.

May be someone else can help. Try post a new post to ask in this forum !
