D'Alessandro to Wolfsburg

i caught a few of the River Plate games on FSW these past couple of weeks and i was really, REALLY impressed. I wonder why none of the bigger clubs jumped at signing him? Maybe they want him to develop a few more years in the European game before they take the chance?

I guess because a lot of argentinians fail in europe.. riquelme.. palermo.. so I am sure if he does well in wolfsburg he'll be quickly snatched

so now he can play next to effenberg?

Effenberg was a dismal failure. He quit the club before the season had even ended, and is now going to play in Qatar for the money.

Wolfsburg aren't a bad team, but their not a good team either, but nonetheless I can't see a club like that taking the risk on d'allessandro.

forgot about that :$

its better for him to go to a club where he would still get games even if he isn't playing 100% for whatever reason than for him to go to a big club and get dropped after a few games............

Hierro's gonna come to Benfica ;)

Anyways D'Alessandro is amazing. I'm also surprised that he's going to a small club, but if he succeeds there Barça, Madrid, Man U, Arsenal etc. etc. will be at the doorstep.

well.. yesterday they said that qatar offered hierro 10m euros for 1 season... and that he would think about it.

why would you want him in Benfica anyway? he is old, slow and makes too many fouls... he wont get as much respect without the madrid jersey

This transfer has been confirmed. The pricetag is 9 million Euros. Peronal details on contract length are left to be worked out.

He'll be joining two other Argentine's on the team who have recently transfered to Wolfsburg.

The reason Wolfsburg have signed D'Alessandro is because they have a partnership with River Plate. Similar to the Man U/Sporting deal. Wolfsburg have first opportunity at signing River Plate players and they are using that now. They pay several million dollars over a 4 or 5 year period to maintain this agreement.

D'Alessandro will fit in wherever he goes, he's just that good.

If this goes through I'd be suprised.

But then again, Wolfsburg don't really have a killer touch in midfield, so it makes sense to splash out the money on someone who is proven both in the club and international scene. (I believe he's been capped a few times[?])

D'Allesandro has never been capped when all the first teamers were called up. He was capped a couple times when the domestic players toured the concacaf region earlier this year.

Anyway, i think one reason that the 'big' clubs didnt come banging down the door for this kid was because of his size. He has exceptional skill, but he is only like 5feet 4in. tall. Also it is well known that he is kind of a crybaby and likes to whine and start crap. Those who saw the USA v Argentine game earlier this year will know about that.

Im kind of surprised by this move for him. He is creative in the midfield with great vision and passing skills, but isnt this kind of anti-German soccer? Watching him play during the whole clausura tournament, it seemed that if he was given too much structure in a system, it might hinder his greatest attribute, which is his creativity.

I hope Wolfsburg build the team around him because if not he could really struggle.

ps. Wasn't Frederico Insua of Indepediente(?) supposed to be their replacement for Effenberg? I remember there was a pretty strong opinion that this was going to be the move. What happened there?

I think he'll be good. Team him up with Ricardo Rocha (awesome cntral defender thats very fast) and we'd have a great central defense.
