DB Editing Tutorials, Tips and Tricks

Those are the correct two files, yes. Good to hear you finally have a working db file you can now edit.
Yes, unfortunately, it didn't make a difference in the game. I updated all the contracts in player to 2030 and lowered all transfer budgets down to 250,000. Then I began a new career after making my edits to test it and it didn't have any effect in-game. Just as many transfers as before.

When I did it in FIFA 14, I also changed all players to age 18. Set budgets at $10,000. Or zero bucks, teams can't buy players if they have no money, break the game and see what happens, try whatever.

Anyway, I did all that back then because I couldn't find another solution, but someone answered you last week and said to simply open the CM files and set transfers from 1 to 0. Apparently that's all it takes. Career mode is not something I've spent any time with so others would know better.

Well, thank you for all your help, I appreciate it. But yourself and others have confirmed that editing cmsettings is what causes crashes. I think that's accepted as just the way it is. I could try ONE more thing. Editing cmsettings but ONLY modifying transfers and leaving all other injury stuff alone. Since I got injuries working elsewhere.

I don't see anything else that can control transfers. Shame because I FINALLY got all injuries shut off only to be thwarted by the thing that used to be easier to fix, transfers. I don't think playing with budget but the thing is, in game, the budgets and contracts don't adjust to the edits I did. They're still the same stock budgets.

Well that's probably why you still see transfers, your mod isn't active. If it were active, those edits would be visible. When I did that in FIFA 14, players rejected all transfers and chose to stay with their teams. So I know it used to work at least.

So now you have to test that to make sure. Easiest way: Edit one player, and lower his agility rating to 1. Load the mod and then check in-game to make sure he's 1 agility. If he isn't 1 agility, your mod isn't loading when you launch the game.

Ok, I assumed these things had been tested and that's why we had Frosty Editor to begin with. So nobody has actually done any major edits yet? Is there a site for this editor where people who developed it might answer questions?

The answers to everything you asked can be found in this forum. The tools work fine, read up on the many trouble-shooting discussions that have been going on since the tools were released.

I might be missing something here I have not read all the replys. When I export from the squads file or db to edit in excel it exports in .txt fromat, how do I save in the same format again after editng? I can only save as a .csv, is there any way to save back to .txt. Also I've tried to convert .csv to .txt but then db editor gives me an error. Help on this will be much appreciated as it is frustrating the living daylight out of me :yoyo:

That's correct, the tables export as txt files. Once you edit, just click the save icon on the toolbar and it will overwrite the txt file and save it as such. Or, if you choose "save as" -- which I do sometimes if I want to save a second copy -- use the Excel dropdown menu to choose to save in unicode format, which is txt format.

Re-reading your post... Is it possible when you installed Excel that you limited your choices as to which types of formats the program will edit and save in? Some programs have that as an install option, you have to manually click 'choose all formats' during the install process. I don't know if Excel does that as I use a different program.

In the save as/file type dropdown menu, there should be at least 10 different file formats to choose to save as, including unicode txt. My program gives me 16 different save as options. If yours does not, then that could well be the issue. Though that doesn't really make sense given you can edit txt files, so it should allow you to save txt files as well.

Thanks for the help I got it working. I was using Libre Office but it had no option to save back to unicode .txt. I installed Microsoft Excel and now I am able to save in the correct format and import without issue.

Which brings me to my next question, is it possible to edit career files? I've tried rather naively to edit my career file in the same way squad files are edited but DBM won't load it. The issue is that I want to change font and numbers for teams in my already started career.

The squads file only has 40 db tables. The full db has 160 tables, including the career files. You can access and edit the full db by exporting the db files from the game files using the Frosty Editor. And yes, you can then edit career mode files. However, to use that edited db, you will have to launch it via the Editor or Frosty Mod Manager. I'm not using those tools as I only care about player and team edits, which can all be done in the squads file.

Someone in another thread was saying they were able to change fonts etc. using Frosty I think. That's all I know about that.

And I'm pretty sure you will not be able to edit that once your career has started. Fidel has a career player editor feature in his mod, that's about it.

Thanks I will experiment with the full db and see what I can do.

@bangus I'm using the Excel software that you linked in your first post. When I open the tables text files [like players.txt] then the headings are not in correct order. The heading order is different on DB master.

Hey again, listen just wanted to say thanks. You've been really helpful and I 've learned a lot. I've tried everything and literally read through every thread in this forum related to Frosty. I simply have no clue what else to try, nothing is working for me. I don't know from where else to get answers for what I was trying to do so I don't do this often but, I give up. I have spent more time trying to modify FIFA in the past week than playing anything else and to me, that's not the point of games. But I wanted to say to you, thanks, and to anyone else, listen to Bangus because he's really helpful.
Thanks!
