Let's see what Beckham wrote about the Galatasaray game played on 7th December 1994 in his book called 'My Story'.
We had a game that would be played with Galatasaray in our stadium. And I had the information about my starting player statement from Manchester Evening News. They were saying that the manager was thinking about giving a chance to some young players among the first 11 in order to make those players earn experience.
Not knowing anything about the others, I went to the game without any idea about what I had to expect. The ball came toward me in front of Stretford End. I remember what I think at that time like:
Something may happen if I can control the ball. The ball didn't exactly fit my feet. but it had gone in and I ran so as to take the ball after I scored. The first one to catch me was Eric Cantona. I had hold him so tight that he had to cope with me for saving himself.
Galatasaray's important players were on the pitch, but the game wasn't so tough as it's expected. We played quite well, and the game had become more beautiful with "many young players on the field". In the end, we won the match by 4-0
