DVD Drive Problem

My PC DVD Drive will refuse to open, I press the eject button but it just stays closed. I then looked in My Computer and the dvd drive wasnt installed. I dont want to try and reboot the computer though as I will lose a lot of data
Please help anyone ?

IF you got the pc on and it works isn't it just to install the dvd?
do you have cd-rom player or just the dvd?
why would you loose data if you reboot?

The problem is that for some reason it was uninstalled so the computer now doesn't know there's a DVD player hence it won't open because it's "not there" according to the computer.

Just reinstall the drivers for the DVD drive, that'll fix it.

try this:

Unplug DVD drive

Start PC, log in etc....

Shut Down

Plug DVD drive in

Start PC

This worked with me

Thanks alot, I lloked inside the PC and actually realised there was a loose wire in there. I knew it was something simple :rolleyes:
