EA: Approaching it wrongly every year.

Just been reading the press release for 2005 and cant help thinking EA are yet again going about the next edition the wrong way.

The emphasis this year or if your really cynical, gimmick, is this first touch feature.

Why?

Every year they try to sell fifa through some new feature, in the past theres been the freestyle control, manual passing, run indicators, off the baal feature and just recently, the new moves in euro 2004.

The point is they dont need to find new features every year, why cant they just keep things simple, for example, 2004 was a relatively good step forward in gameplay, they followed that up with a much improved Euro 2004 which allowed us to dribble past the opposition.

My point is why dont they BUILD on this and take it forward? Theres no need for new graphics, new features, they just need to refine the gameplay, work on the bits that arnt 100%, i mean why dont they turn their attentions to getting the replay highlights and freekick system right first or even maybe sort out he ball physics when the ball hits the net (its currently awful).

I feel if they did this instead of thinking of a new selling point each year (and lets admit it here, thats what they do year on year) The game would evolve, just in the way the pro evolution series did, they need to work on the weaker aspects of the game, keep in place the good stuff and take it on from there.

I cant help but think that they kind of rip everything up every so often to try and come up with something different, which creates problems.

Because they are an American company, and if you notice, most American products, always add 1 gimmick from version to version, to make people want to buy it, so they just carry this mentality into the game development as well. I agree that if they game is good people will buy it, gimmick or no gimmick

Then why don't they do it on their other games? Look at Madden, NHL or any of the other sports titles, none of them market themselves around a "NEW" basic feature which really should have been perfected back in 1999!

It's got nothing to do with them being American, it's got to do with their crappy staff who happen to be a mixture of European, Canadian, American and Japanese.

Vancouer we got a problem!

I agree they should improve the gameplay instead of getting something new which is only half-done and not working properly.

LOL :crazyboy:

I believe this will be the MINIMUM controller requirement for FIFA 2006. :crazyboy:

And with Technology improving so rapidly.....

.... will be the flight and navigation systems seen in most 747s when FIFA 2006 is released. :crazyboy: :rockman:

The way that companies trick people into buying their products even though they are imperfect and seemingly just "BS" is called MARKETING. Instead of making a product as best as they possibly can they race to meet a deadline, set sales goals and profit margins and identify selling points. All companies are like this. EA isn't the only one. This matters to us because we want each game we pay for to be better than last year and somehow as jawdroppingly good as their other games. At least the guys who write the patches make the games more fun and interesting.
The clock is ticking on FIFA 2005. Let's see how it turns out.

Usually, when I see large post (or larger than usual) I don't take time to read them. Somehow I felt I had to take the time to read this one, I wasn't wrong.
Great post mate, that's THE SAME thing I've thought since FIFA 2003.

EA loves to make great labels for all of their features, but that's just it...... labels...... and labels don't make the game better.
I mean..... we could make labels for some of the things that are currently in FIFA 2004..... like: New Atmosphere - This new feature will make you feel right at the stadium, like if you were in between the crowd-
And that could be a label for the goal cinematic in which they show the crowd standing and screaming...

What EA has to focus on improving the old features.
Like dribbling..... dribbling is not completely right on Euro 2004... you still can't get passed a defender with the player's speed.
The only 2 ways you can get passed a defender is by passing the ball to a team mate, or by making a nutmeg or something like that (pressing the space bar), but still you can't run faster to pass him, or such things like you can do in real life.
And also, there should be lots more of combinations to make dribbling more fun, like the Ronlandinho trick or the bycicle, etc... those tricks should be there in this year's game..... BUT they should be ADDED and not they shouldn't be there REPLACING existing ones. And why not...... instead of just using the space bar.... using different combinations of buttons like L2 + RIGHT + LEFT + FORWARD KEY could make the Ronalinho trick (flip flap).

they're hardly using the hitstick feature as a selling point....try drastically improved franchise mode, better player models, and smarter DB AI
