Had he gotten that penalty, he wouldn't have scored that screamer because it came from the same attack. So if Arsenal had that penalty given, technically it wouldn't change a thing. (Of coarse that said we are talking about "what if" events here)....

Had he gotten that penalty, that could have set the platform for them to blow you away 5-0.....there's no way of knowing how MUCH would have changed had it been called.

Yeah, and it could have set up a platform for us to get motivated and blow them away 5-1 just as easily. That's why i said we are talking about "what if" events here.

But the most likeliest outcome is that he would have gotten the penalty and scored and the score would have stayed 1-0 going into half-time. So what's the difference? Besides, if rooney's wasn't a penalty than that wasn't a penalty either.

And if he keeps on a straight trajectory, Almunia gets a severe concussion a la Cech, which I'm sure would be so much better for Arsenal. I'd think you'd be thankful to Rooney for choosing to try to avoid your keeper rather than smash his head into the ground. There's a difference between attempting to/succeeding in avoiding contact and falling in the process, and diving, when there is no apparent threat of contact. And for the record, I think Eduardo is getting shafted a bit, as he was in a similar situation.

It's not up, but I don't need to, I've seen it times enough to know that it's your bias that is talking. I'm not having a go, it's only natural that you're biased, but that is a penalty man...

To me, if the ball hits the player before he makes any contact with the opponent and the direction of the ball completely changes, that's not a penalty, except in extreme cases where the offender totally cleans up the other guy. Fletcher's slide wasn't malicious and the ball hit him on the chest and was rolling away from the net before he made contact with Arshavin. I could say the same thing about bias, man. It doesn't matter now, but i'm just saying.

How is it not possible to continue playing there without kicking Almunia in the head? It's his left leg that would take the next step, and that's the one further away from Almunia. He could easily just jump over it, if he wasn't taking the fall already.

Let's agree to disagree then, because there's no way I can say that that wasn't a penalty. And just because I like Arsenal doesn't mean I'm biased, I couldn't care less if that was or not a penalty, I don't see Arsenal as I see my own club, I like their style that's all; so no, you couldn't say the same thing about bias...

Having watched it a few more times after my last post, I have changed my mind, It wasn't a penalty. Rooney just sold it more like, Raul from the club I support and love.
