EURO 2008 Final : Germany vs. Spain [P+R]

Congrats to Spain. They were awesome all tournament. Would have one by more than 1 if Fab stayed on longer. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with nationalized players playing for other countries?? I mean what does it take to play for another country other than your own??? Every country in the world should just take in a few Brazilians and it will improve their game.

Deserved winners I think. Congratulations to Spain, they really played the best and most consistent football of this tournament. The Germans started off well but after Silva switched to the right side Spain got more control of the match which eventually led to the goal by Spain. Brilliant tactical move by Aragones IMO. After that the Germans never really looked like coming back. There was a time some midway through the second half when Germany started to pressure but even than Spain had many chances and should've perhaps made more than just one goal.
Oh and big up for Xavi too, his passing was brilliant this final.

I cringed when Senna missed that chance to make it 2-0, no one deserved it more. Congratulations to Spain, fully deserved, underachievers no more!

Germany need a striker. Klose was out of form and isn't going to get any better. Kuranyi didn't do anything and Gomez was hard to watch. Supposedly he's not bad at Stuttgart, but he was pure **** this entire tournament.

In the end it was anticlimactic but Spain winning is still a great story. Congrats

Fair play to Spain. They deserved to win 2-0 or 3-0. I feel so bad for Ballack though.

Lahm better have been extremely injured, because that was a dubious substitution. I thought both Podolski and Klose needed to go off towards the end, and Low could only take off one. Someone like Odonkor could have caused some trouble in the last 15 minutes.

Fernando Torres is AMAZING.

Lahm had stitches in his foot at halftime, so it probably was something worth while.
That's 4 times runners up for Ballack this year.
A feat he achieved in 2002 as well.

Ballack's a tough bloke, i'm sure despite what the records say he'll always stay competitive and go for the trophies with club and country.

The Torres goal did show el nino's ability to score out of nothing, but Lehmann was at fault in some sense I think. I thought Lahm had the pace to cope with Torres instead of shielding the ball.

But the substitutions didn't help a bit, apart from Lahm(injured), Kuranyi and Gomez were horrible subs....especially Kuranyi, who was fouling players left right and center...........I agree that he should've brought on Odonkor...and it might have been a more competitive game.

Senna was a monster as usual. :D

You cant really blame Lahm, he was trying to shield the ball, but Torres quick changed sides, kind of breaked Lahm cleverly, while switching lanes behind him.

Lahm had the positioning on Torres, and should have closed him down. He should get more of the blame than Lehmann, unless he(Lahm) was injured...

I must say that this is a much different German team than the one which hammered Portugal in the 3rd place game at the WC. That team was bubbling with confidence and could attack all game long. This one was quite unable to force itself on its opponent the way that team was able to. Somewhere along the way they lost their swagger and just never resembled that team from 2 years ago.

I predicted that Germany would win the tournament easily.....the way things turned out, I would have taken a hard fought win....they never came close.

I remember that guy David Odonkor being quite impressive as a substitute during the WC. He didn't play a second this year....perhaps that would have changed things and added an injection of speed that this team lacked throughout the tournament. Loew said, after the semi-final win, that the pressure was off them. That was reflected in Germany's attitude in the final. They seemed to sit back far too much, in the final, and only tried to get going much after they conceeded, not something I saw from the 2006 WC team.

Senna was great, and I completely agree about the goal; Lahm stayed off the ball because he saw Lehman coming, but the old man either didn't come hard enough, or just doesn't have the quickness to get there anymore. That's another managerial blunder, sticking with Lehman. Germany has some good keepers behind Lehman, there's no reason to stick with a keeper who's that shaky.

I was shocked that Kuranyi was brought on, but I knew it would be Hitzelsperger to come off, the guy was terrible. I never noticed him on the pitch, and hell, he's supposed to be on there for extra defense, but Germany's defense in the first half was as bad as I've ever seen it. Actually, all game. I thought it probably should have been Gomez on first though, followed quickly by Odonkor. Kuranyi doesn't have the skill, and Gomez didn't have the time to make something happen.
