This is really pointless though, the issue with this thread is just the inappropriate use of the word dominance here, there is no dominance whatsoever. That's a little extreme. Just because Brazil and Argentina didn't qualify for the semis, it's not like they were much inferior to their opponents.

Exactly

lol that is if you consider north america and south america different continents which i don't.

Go back to elementary, because they are different. You're basically saying that night and day are the same thing, which is an ignorant statment just made to bash argentina. I understand that many people dislike argentina, and that it's the "cool" thing to do so your friends accept you, but don't be so ignorant. Besides, unless president bush was the president of south america and I didn't hear about it, you have no argument.

On topic, Europe has the teams and the players to prove why it's now a european cup, south america usually just has argentina and brazil because to them soccer is a way of life. Also untill I saw Zidane wake up, I was 100% sure that once Argentina beat Germany it would've been Argentina's cup, but We'll see what France has for Germany when the time comes.

The 7-continent model is usually taught in Western Europe, China, and most native English-speaking countries. The 6-continent combined-America model is taught in Latin America, Iberia and some other parts of Europe. The 6-continent combined-Eurasia model is preferred by the geographic community, Russia, Eastern Europe, and Japan. In all of these cases, the names Australasia or Oceania may be used in place of Australia; in Canada, the government-approved Atlas of Canada names 7 continents and indicates Oceania instead.

Historians may use the 5-continent model in which North Africa is separated from Sub-Saharan Africa and included in Eurasia (Jared Diamond) or the 4-continent Afro-Eurasian (Andre Gunder Frank).
what part of this can't people understand?
it's so f'cking simple, stop acting like you know more than each other about geography/geology.

about the subject of the thread.....
so the 4 semi-finalists of this WC are European, big f'cking deal.
maybe in 2010 we'll have all-american semi-finals and someone will open a thread named "American Dominance", in 2014 "African Dominance" and in 2018 "Asian Dominance".
that's how football works, things can change in a blink of an eye.

i'm not bashing Argentina, since i don't agree with this "European Dominance" thing because when it comes to football i will only root for my NT and my club team, i can enjoy other teams football but never will i root for them or have the same passion that i have for Les Bleus and Paris Saint Germain.

and i ain't gonna get into one of these geography arguments again, to some ppl they are separate continents to some other ppl its one continent.

i didn't know Bush was president of "North America" i thought he was president of the USA, i didnt know his presidency ruled over Canada and Mexico which are part of "North America" so your idiotic comparison is way more ignorant than any misconceptions you may have about education in other countries besides your own

Why are we talking about geography?

Argentina (and maybe Ecuador) both brought that South American flare to the WC and played that way while Brazil (except for the Japan game) played like an European side, in other words more tactics and less creative freedom which was very dissapointing to see because I expected Brazil to be...well...Brazil.

Ghana and Ivory Coast were also very entertaining to watch and showed that African nations know how to win they just need more experience (and better GKs).

The Asian teams brought what they usually bring to the WC, mediocrity.

Other than Mexico the North American teams were terrible.

The European teams have played the best out of any other continent in this WC and that's why you see 4 of them in the semis.

BTW I believe that the Germany vs. Argentina match had more to do with the fan support than luck. Had the shootout been in Argentina I bet at least one of the German players would have missed a PK. Hearing 70,000 people booing and whisteling you can't be too comforting now can it.

African teams really need defensive lessons, there attacks are beautiful when it all clicks though.

don't be so bitter now that your team was eliminated dude, it doesn't matter where you are playing you still have to win your matches to lift the cup.

For me they are 1 continent too, but for the FIFA they are 2. But still on the present in or outside the world cup the europeans lose matches in Europe, and the southamericans doesn't lose in southamerica against non southamerican teams(may be because the europeans never dare to come because i believe even Bolivia can defeat any euro team on their land).

So yeah if there's a dominance the europeans may aswell stop filling their clubs with non europeans or getting from other countries to play for theirs.:boohoo:

i agree with you, that's why i said previously that i didn't see it as european dominance, i bet that every fan from this forum have had a south american player on their fave club.

just off the top of my head Paris Saint Germain: Pochettino, Heinze, Sorin, Ronaldinho, Rai, Rodriguez, Leonardo, Cardetti, Paulo Cesar.

i think the world cup should be reduced to 24 teams instead of 32... asian teams are horrible and north american aswell, well with exception with Mexico and somwhat the states who rule that continent.. why in the hell dos North America and Asia have 4.5 spots each... horrible specially when only 1 of the teams out of the 9 made it to 2cnd round! (:/) what a waste of a tournement
