In your mind maybe , but Chelsea have been faves to win the champions league for some time , just check the odds at the bookmakers over the last 2 months.

Now they have lost so many players you are now faves - pipe down son.

just watch this documentary following Barca (well Laporta and the board mainly) for a year, the 03/04 season:

BARÇA: THE INSIDE STORY
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/documentaries/storyville/barca.shtml

First, i have to say i had no idea how much sh*t Barca were in before Laporta, the debt, the 'Mad Boys' and the politics around the club.

The documentary was very good and followed Laporta from the time of the vote untill the last game of the season. We got to see literally everything that happened between this time, from the signing of Ronaldinho, to the discussion of next seasons team.

after watching it you realise how well Laporta and his team have done to transform the finances and basically moderise Barca from a very traditional club with huge debt to a modern business that performs on and off the pitch. When his team first got in and got to look at the books, it was amazing to learn that Kluivert was earning 10% of the 70 million euro basic salary alone. Then later to learn that his agent had 'earned' 1.5m euros (it was meant to be 3m euros but the old GM negotiated down) for renewing Kluiverts and Reizigers contracts.

Other interesting things that happened in the show was how new players are signed, we saw that it was Rijkaard that demanded a new defensive player on a Tuesday and by the Sunday, Davids was loaned for the remainder of the season. which was good management from the board considering the pressure on Rijkaard, and how the board resisted pressure to sack him. Later we saw how the 'standard' contract was negotiated with Davids's agent, consisting of a basic salary then bonuses based on 60% appearance, CL qualification, winning a first title then a second. They did earlier calculate that if Barca had won the league they would have to pay around 9m euros in bonuses which would mean they finished the season with a debt of 9 million or if they didn't win then it would mean a profit of 8m euros (which did happen).

i also had no idea of how strong the politics surronding barca are. it was shocking to hear about the death threats and planned intimidation for Laporta via the 'Mad Boys' from some former directors.

All in all it was a very good documentary, and it was impressive to see how barca are run.

:)

Barca's game against Chelsea in the UCL quarter finals will be the 53d time the Catalans have faced English opposition, only having lost 14 times. Chelsea themselves were last dispatched by Barca in the 99-00 season.

The full record of games against English sides is: played 52, won 24, drawn 14 and lost 14. Barca have faced English teams in all the major European competitions and in knock out games have gone through 9 times and been eliminated 6 times since they met Birmingham in the 1957 Fairs Cup.

Four finals

Barca have also played in four continental finals against English opposition, only losing once, in 1991 against Manchester United in the Cup Winners Cup in Rotterdam. In 1960, Barca beat a combination London team 2-2 and 6-0 at home, in the final of the 1957-58 Fairs Cup final, Birmingham City 0-0 and 4-1 aty home in the same competition a year later and beat Leeds 2-1 in the 1971 final.

BARÇA BITE

2005 will see Chelsea and Barca meeting for the third time in Europe, Barca having taken the first two ties. In 1965-66 in the Fairs Cup, Barca won 2-0 in Catalonia, then lost by the same score in London, before winning the replay 5-0. More recently, in the 99-00 season, Van Gaal's team went down 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in the UCL quarter finals before winning an epic second leg 5-1 after extra time at the Nou Camp.

in such matches it means nothing. if Barca played against some average Englosh team, then, of course, we could use this stats, but only not against such top team as Chelsea is.

well, we had always been supposed to be a rich club, but former president was a complete idiot and was able to create a very important debt. And only in 3-4 years!!!!

I watched the documentary some moths ago and it's very interesting. I think I heard somewhere that there'll be a second part ... but I' not sure about it.

Yes, even if you're not a Barca fan (I don't consider myself one--anymore) it's very interesting to watch.

After the game, chelsea had a few problems, also refusing to speak to the press.

After the game, Chelsea's Director of Communication told reporters that none of the players or technical staff would be talking to the press because: "there was an incident at half tinme, which we will be reporting to UEFA within 24 hours". The Chelsea team refused to give any more details of the alleged incident.

I wonder what it is ?

Rijkaard talked to the reff in the way to the locker rooms, but that's something that is done after every match.

The problem is that Chelsea are not used to lose 2 games in a row, they were pissed off and had a bad losing.

Every team is supposed to talk to the press after a match. They didn't and I guess they will have to pay a fine, but who cares... it's only money.

If this way they can make they supportres more agressive for the second match, that's good.

Bad losing I think.
