Spending 70m on Suarez postpones purchasing a CB. I'm not saying you won't get one, nor that this deal has anything to do with the lack of a CB until this point, but it does affect the chances of you getting a CB of the quality you need.

We probably will spend 30+ on a CB anyway, although other than Marquinhos there's no CB on the market coming in my mind right now. Spending that amount at the start of August, or the start of July has nothing to do with getting Suarez for 70+.

Also, the final price seems to be 79M€ (63M£). I don't know how to feel about that. Thinking about the prices the press speculated around May (105M from Madrid at some point) it looks like a bargain. Thinking about the amount we spent for Zlatan (who was a little older than Suarez at that moment) seems like fair price for him.

By the way, Mathieu is out of the list for the moment, since Valencia is asking for the clause which is 20M for someone who turns 31 soon.

I'm not sure the Barca board will sanction a 40-50m CB acquisition having just spent 80 on Suarez and you will not get anyone worthwhile for less than that. I assume, after all, that you're looking for a starter rather than someone to stick on the bench.

Suarez has nothing to do with not buying a CB so far. It's not his fault because PSG ask 45M for Marquinhos and Hummels, Kompany, Silva, x,y,z are not available. Even Mathieu... they want 20M for a 31 yo. Fuck this. We have money, but there are not many CBs good for Barça.

Anyway, I trust Bartra and the main problem for Barcelona's poor defence is not the defensive line imo.

You've been complaining about the lack of a CB on a weekly basis for several seasons now. But now the defensive line isn't the issue? Right. I guess Suarez will bite the CBs into submission and then they'll switch shirts and slot in.

No, it's not Suarez's fault, it's the club's fault for designating those funds to getting him. You're talking as if it's the other clubs' fault for setting high prices even though they're well within their rights and pretty much everyone knew they would hold Barca ransom bcause they have no reason to sell, there's a dearth of top quality CBs (especially if they have to fit the Barca scheme) and Barca are in a bind and need to buy now. For that reason, Barca should have started negotiating with 3-4 CBs from day one and accepted that they will overpay. PSG got David Luiz for 45m and that is, all things considered, a good price and you should be wary that you will not sign anyone for cheaper. So, what? Barca will say 'fuck it' and wait it out? When they've just spend 80m on Suarez? How could any Barca fan be happy about that? Or, worse still, Barca say 'wait, these CBs cost that much? damn, we're not gonna pay that after spending all that on Suarez".

Note that Hummels and other CBs are as unavailable as Suarez and if you launched 80 for Thiago Silva, I'm not sure PSG would reject the bid. Is Silva worth 80m? No, of course not, but when contextualised within Barca's current market situation and team needs, spending 80m on a top CB makes more sense than doing so on Suarez.

The midfield, the pressing, tactics and maybe Alves. This is our problem. Of course I want CBs because we only have 2. Luiz is nit worth 45M. We offered like 50M for Thiago Silva but in vain. We can't get Kompany and Hummels doesn't want to leave Dortmund.
Also this is Zubi's problem too. Its been 3 years since we last signed a cb.

79 for Suarez is a good price.

Alexis presses more than Suarez and you're replacing him. If Suarez is worth 79 David Luiz is worth 45, easily. And if you have 79 to spare on a position that is not the most pressing need, scoffing at prices in a position you have needed for 3 years is ridiculous. Cut your losses and overpay.

Your midfield is also worse now than it was a few months ago. So, again, justifying the Suarez purchase in the face of your complaints doesn't add up.
