Yeah, it also brings back the NSL and the a-league when they've worked so hard to separate them. I think the huge success of WSW has shown them they need to embrace the culture

But WSW works because Marconi, Sydney United and Bonnyrigg White Eagles fans have a neutral banner to rally behind.

CBF making another thread but thought this was interesting for the new NPL,

"The system will work by allocating a points value to each player in
every NPL first team squad based on certain characteristics (eg age,
citizenship or residency status and the number of years at the club).
Every first team squad will be limited to a maximum number of points.

edit:

Each player is initially worth 10 points and p
layer values are then discounted, or inflated,
depending on the characteristics of the player and whether this characteristics have
been prioritised. The adjusted values, which would be cumulative, are as follows:

+1 Point for over 25's
+10 Points for international VISA players (Max 2 Per squad)
-1 Point for each level of youth team a player has played for (u12's,14's,16's etc..)
-3 Points for "rising stars" (Under 18 players)
+8 Points for transferred players

I don't think the FFA Cup goes back to the old "wog" roots of the old NSL at all. I think the A League has established itself now (especially compared to the old NSL), and those old racially backed clubs are no longer a threat at all to the A League clubs.

Creating the cup is almost a declaration of victory over those clubs. They're not afraid for them to get exposure, as they're no longer a threat to the top tier A League, as they once may have been. Now it's about creating a national cup, as so many football nations have, where any team - and any race or creed - can compete.

Great decision by the FFA, even if my post is three weeks late

I agree. What do you think of the NPL? I think its a bit strict but its forcing all the smaller professional clubs around the country to focus primarily on youth and not washed up British/African imports

Yeah, I think that's a good thing to a degree. But you also have to wonder how much experience will be missed. Youth by itself isn't necessarily going to develop any better with that system. That said, it's better than the non existent system we have in interstate cricket, which means states never give young players much of a crack, just stick to the same old guys

At least it puts a halt to all the visa players being imported for a year or two then being shipped off
