FIFA 06 Demo - Your Impressions

to tell the truth .fifa06 copied much of the parts of winning11.
such as the use of "C" is exactly the same with the R2 in winning11.

and the animation is kind of short when celebrating a goal.

the face of stars are not superior to those in WE ,somewhat worse than WE.

The gameplay i cool, better than last year.
But the graphics seem worse. The player faces and hair are really bad. Maybe it's because I've played PES4 for some time now...

Its in low res, im sure someone is already working on a patch that will let us change it to high res. Bad move by EA not giving us the option to up the res though.

The game looks quite impressive, can't wait for a demo expander so i can play in high res and more time, the players act much more naturally than last year, basically everything seems more real. There are more colision points and players sometimes fall due to that, it's pretty realistic. The thing that most impressed me was the shots and the Keepers, this was the 2 worst things in FIFA 2005, now it's more difficult to score and we face new animations in the shot and in the keeper A.I. . Can't wait for the full game...

Once I got over my huge disappointment regarding the fact that pass and switch player are assigned to the same button, and that it doesn't even recognise the shoulder buttons on my xbox gamepad (makes sprinting really difficult) I'm pleasantly surprised with the gameplay. I've only played it twice though so I'm waiting for that to change as per usual.

Player have shiny heads, all players look the same from a distance, the players don't even look like in real life. That's all I could remember.

Uninstalled it within 2 minutes.

i play it on my sh.t notebook and surprisingly works. so, i can't comment anything on the graphics. basically it have huge improvement compare to FIFA 2005. AI is getting better, so does keeper, shoting, corner.

there are some bad thing i found in the demo. initially i find it hard to make tackle, cpu seems "too good" in dribbling by dragging the ball around their feet, quick turn and etc. but after 20 minutes, the game just plain easy (i'm not mean scoring goals but i mean control the match). when cpu get the ball, you just set back and relax, using the arrow key to move along the cpu player and watch him perform tricks (yeah, i don't even tackle him, he keeps turn over here and there). when the time is right, press D to tackle. just that easy.

second is i feel cpu crossing is unbelievable accurate. 40-50 yards long pass without any problems. i thought off the ball was not implement in this game?

the players look too fat too me. Look at Gatusso, has he been bodybuilding the last year???

They copied a lot from pes, like the R2 button thing, throughpass/high througpass, One-twos. All exactly the same button combinations.

The game is definaltely better compared to the previous versions. But still the games feels so stiff. The ball movement isnt still as free as in pes. Thats the most important thing in a soccer game. This for me alone makes the game a bit boring.

But they have improved i must say. This is the first time i didnt delete the demo after 2 games. Ill play it some more, maybe i will appreciate it, but i think the chance is small.

another thing is the digital movement, i use a ps2 gamepad and it is not possible to run accross, dont know how to say it in english, but you can only run horizontal and vertical in digital movement, nice bug

At this moment in time I'm loving it

First goal I seen made me realise how different and better it is to previous Fifa's. Ronaldo shot from a tight angle after chesting it down, the keeper dived to save it but the ball came out to Rooney how scored a diving header from the rebound. It looked great.

Pirlo just scored a screamer against me from about 20-25 yards. Bar and in. Net physics made it look amazing

I don't really like the free kick setup as much. Is there a way to curl corners?

I was dissapointed. It felt as if I was playing football on a console, but then again so did fifa 2005 before I added a gameplay patch that I further tweaked to my likings.

The controls are harder than last year, but I guess I am too old to still play arcade games and can't really play with eight buttons at once

I prefer simulations really and my modded Fifa2005 is far superior to this thing, going to buy the full version anyway, because the patchers and kit and toolmakers are going to do their best again to make this game better and better.

But no big complaints, now I can start to play Fifa2005 seriously in career mode without having to import three or four new things a day and breaking the database or the zdata files

And Fifa06 gets promoted to my new (build)toybox until the next comes out...

Gotta say, actually pretty impressed with it. Having been a solid Konami fanboy for some years I wasn't expecting too much from it to be honest but there are a lot of great improvements in the gameplay. Feels a lot better overall and yes, closer to the Konami series but then pretty much everybody agreed the gameplay from the PES/WE series mixed with the FIFA licenses would be the best way to go. Still not there yet but a giant leap forward I think. Probably even get this for my PS2 and I haven't bought a FIFA title since 02 so that's a big step for EA to achieve that.

Good job, looking forward to the final version.

That sounds awesome Wolf. I'm the same as you, a hardcore PES/WE fan. From what you posted it looks like Fifa will once again be fun to play. Like I posted somewhere else, I don't care if Fifa is better than WE, I just want Fifa to be fun again.

PS Could someone answer some gameplay questions for me?
1. Describe the new free kick system.
2. Do Fullbacks actually make runs now?
3. Do you actually feel good when you score like in WE?
4. Anything else you want to tell me about gameplay.
