Fifa 07(360) early impressions.

Fifa 07(360 demo) is actually a damn good game of football. Normally, I curse EA for it's cheap gimmicks and horrible gameplay, but so far I'm really impressed with their next gen effort. It goes without saying that it looks and sounds amazing(Althouth, the nets could look a little better).

The gameplay is where it really shines. You can tell that the team worked really hard on making the player movements look and feel real. The ball no longer feels glued to the player. It's free and has a mind of it's own. The players react differently depending on its position/height. Volley's in particular look awesome, which brings me to another point. Scoring goals feels good again in Fifa. Due inpart to the ball physics(which lead to unpredictable and amazing goals) and GK reactions that look very real and natural. Dribbling, although simplified(no skill moves), also feels better. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo have a distinct dribble. You can really feel his pace and control.

Another thing that I like is that they're mimicking WE's formation settings options and control scheme(well...sort of). You have full control over your players role and position. It even has the same attacking and defending arrows. The control scheme has been optimized for the 360 controller, making good use of the triggers. These changes make it easier for a WE/PES guy like me to play Fifa. (Tip:lowering the pass assistance meter improves through passes.)

Overall, Fifa 07 is alot of fun to play. Even with no gimmicky skill moves, it still delivers a solid gameplay experience. I'm sure if it wasn't for deadlines(the reason I believe they couldn't add skill moves), this game would be even better. I'm going to buy Fifa 07(360) because it's fun to play and because we have to to support this kind of innovation in football gaming. It may not be perfect, but it's a huge step in the right direction.

Man I seem to get quoted in every single thread now with my post from a different thread! Seriously though, on your basis of evaluation, would you say this game is a step in the wrong direction then? If so, why not play the PC or PS2 version?

The reason I post is about pass assistance. In the demo, where is the option to decrease the pass assistance?

I found it in the pause menu, under controller setup. It also lets you tone down auto switching. Another cool thing is that you can edit a players position in the formation screen by hitting Y. You probably know that already, though.

It sounds like the 360 version has more options than the PS2 version. No turning off pass assistance and manually tinkering with individual players positions on PS2, but I'm glad to see EA introduce such things. OK, they're copying a lot of stuff from PES but that's no bad thing given PES has done so many things so well. And FIFA adds a lot of nice new things which Konami could learn from.

EA are finally providing a genuinely good football game. I just hope it spurs Konami into action.

If fifa can't get to their destination in current gen fifa's then what about next gen? Even worse. A step in the right direction means nothing if they can't finish off a great game. PES has done it over and over. C'mon even Fifa fans have to admit that they are dropping the ball. With all the money they have they should put out a game with excellent gameplay. Maybe if they stopped worrying about what band from Lichtenstein they'll feature they can make a good game. Honestly, I cannot see Fifa ever catching Konami, ever!

You really think that ONVY?, because my view is different, i come from PES and to tell you the truth im getting tired of slight upgrades year to year, sure we all know the gameplay is pretty well spot on, but what about the rest of the game, if they are not working on the gameplay from year to year what the hell are those people doing??, what has been significantly improved with PES, same crap commentry, hasnt been updated for years, it falls way short of FIFA, licences?, 1 or 2 additions each year, still the EPL is in fantasy world, to be honest all PES has going for it is great gameplay, so what is the point of updating from PES4, honestly when i see the work being done each year for both titles its plain as dog **** which is putting in the most year to year and it aint PES!!..............believe me that FIFA will gradually nail the gameplay that is a certainty and because the rest of their game is evolving also, PES will find it has to catch up in these other areas because at the moment it only beats FIFA in gameplay and absolutley nothing else, PES isnt perfect not by a long shot, if they dont push boundaries they will get left behind, PES fans are buying FIFA these days so somthing is up.

SYMo, you are right about PES! I agree. They also need alot of work, like in crowd animations/graphics, sound, etc. But, for me, the meat and potatos of a sports game is gameplay! If it looks great and plays like sh!!te, it's not worth it. To reach PES's gameplay, FIFA will need at leaast 4 years to catch up, at least. And the reason people are buying Fifa is cause they want to play with their legit team, stadium, chants, etc, which Fifa is superb in....but that wears thin after a while. I tried playing Fifa 2006 a while back when some friends brought it over and I just felt tied down. It's scripted too much. Believe me I'm pulling for fifa. I started on Fifa with International Soccer '94! I'm a veteran. I recently switched to WE/PES 2 years ago....ever since, EA who?

I agree with you OVNY when you talk about gameplay, PES is definately better in this area, when i switched from FIFA to PES3 i noticed a world of difference, the freedom etc, things that mostly everyone knows, and i myself didnt buy a FIFA game until 06, now i didnt bother buying PES5, basically i didnt think it was worth it, slight tweaks here and there but basically the "same" game as PES4, i have to admit i thoroughly enjoyed FIFA06, thats until i did buy PES5, and going back to FIFA06 i noticed how limited it was in gameplay, very scripted etc, maybe i shouldnt have bought PES5, but it was black and white, PES has it in the gameplay and it is a game you do not tire of for the simple reason that its right!.................BUT like i said im getting pizzed off with the limited amount of work done on the PES titles year to year, if those guys can nail the gameplay like they have but still have no clue in all the other areas then somthing tells me they must be sitting on their lazy rear ends when they should be lifting the rest of the game to match their gameplay, no reason why they cant, and this is what Carlos*s me off about PES, its like they think it doesnt need improving and that is not healthy.

FIFA07 on the 360 looks good to me, and ill be buying it, from the few vids ive seen on PES6 next gen, and this is "if" im right, im not impressed, anyone with anything on the game please prove me wrong, please , if PES fails to deliver a quality game in all areas for next gen with hefty improvments where they are needed then ill be proved right, hope im wrong of course, lets hope for 2 very good football games, as thats what it is all about.

Some of you are really creating kaos regarding this next-gen thing. So far all games on 360 feel next-gen to me. I knew playing next-gen games werent going to be like controling real human being... but what next gen offers is huge graphical improvement and alot of room to fit in certain things..

If you say a game from PS2 or XBOX are the same as on 360 then you need your eyes removed, because you surely don't need em.

HAHAHAHA, i heard someone saying that FIFA07 360 looked exactly like FIFA07 PS2, i thought to myself how long it must have taken for that window licker to type that post...........?

As for the 360 version, look at the players movements, his head turns, the flow of the arms, infact just look its plain as say walking down ya local mall and seeing a F**KING T-REX buying a 360 outa EB!

I'm not gonna sit here and compare games. First of all this isn't the forum for it and second, I'm a PES/WE mod so I'm a bit biased on the subject. The purpose of my thread is to point out that Fifa finally made a fun game of footy. It gives me(and others with an open mind) a fun alternative until the next gen WE is released.
