FIFA '08 Vs PES 2008

are u guys really playing the same games?

just played FIFA2008 after yesterday PES08 -both PC-

the gameplay.

PES is still in the better class here, where should I start?
PES has far detailed tactics than FIFA, and this year, PES's player movements are even better than it's predecessors; in FIFA you can't assign movements at all!

player movements, attributes, control, physics, in FIFA players (as always) felt weird, okay I don't really know what words to put into this, but I believe if any of you really played both game, you will understand that, I'll give u examples then.

In PES there is significant differences between Messi and say Peter Crouch in matter of mass, agility and speed while you're controlling them, in FIFA the differences are reduced significantly -I'm not saying these things are gone in FIFA, but reduced-....

attributes in FIFA are confusing and wrong, how can Trezeguet sprint that fast in FIFA? and another tradition in FIFA is that players actual body sizes (and attributes that should correlate to them) don't have real meaning there.....

attacking and defending.

in term of attacking, FIFA is way worse than PES due to the facts I mentioned above (and yes, they made differences more than some of you migh think).....but interestingly defending in FIFA is more realistic than PES, though this advantage is nullified because of lacking real attacking sense while playing

but I have to tell you that I'm frustrated by the lacking of fully manual cursor change in FIFA, because for years I've been used to PES system of pressing and tackling, also in FIFA the pressing also felt weird because players will have a space gap....

ball physics, in FIFA I have noticed that the balls don't go in a fully parabolic way, after reaching it's peak the ball looks like it suddenly heavier and going down faster and has weird looking, I've also noticed that often the balls don't bounce realistically

graphics? it's the worst FIFA graphics ever! I recalled that FIFA 2002 or so had better graphics!

the only thing I like in FIFA08 was the non over aggressive AI like I found PES, other than that PES is clearly better :Carlos*o:

I don't understand why people would like FIFA08 than PES08 :gavin:

if you can't win... what you need to do is to give yourself the time in learning how to play the game well. and sometimes you have to accept that you are not that good at all to convince everyone else that you are the only one who knows how to play the game as how it should be played as in the real world

I havent played PES2008 because in Canada it comes out in March, however I played FIFA08 on PS3 and got bored of it...the only thing that FIFA08 has is graphics and presentation, besides that! BUF! Am sure that I will enjoy this years PES

I've been a PES fan for a long long time (since the ISS series) and this year I switched to FIFA.. Now I am discussing Next Gen here (Ps3/Xbox 360) and as a totally unbiased fanboy, I ask all the PES fans to argue about gameplay: Everytime you do a gentle foul, the ref is on you, its a joke! How can you consider that to be real football? Its arcadish, its absolute sh!t. You say Fifa is slow? not slow.. thats real football, how often do you see a 5-0 or a 7-3 scoreline in real football? With the new FIFA you actually feel the style of football and the technical skills behind it.. sorry guys but Knoami fuc5ed up this year and EA has taken full advantage of this

^ uhuh? back then in the WE 4 era I could have scores like 14-13 in a match (with human, not AI, if against AI I could win with 15-0 in a 15 minutes match), but why did people still said at that time that WE was waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy better than FIFA?????

nothing wrong with it actually, it's just because it's a game not a sim like FM; and I can bet that if there are too many matches with 0-0 scores, people would also complain, but I do agree that PES2008 is a little too fast paced and they need to make the ball control looser.

PES2008 + slower paced + not too aggressive AI + looser ball control would be the best football game ever!

This arguement PES2008 vs FIFA08 will never end! its a matter of tastes!

some like PES better and they will never change, some like FIFA

some like blonds, some like brunettes, we are all diffrent

For me Nokami have fecked up this year but EA haven't taken full advantage, FIFA 2008 on next-gen is much better than previous FIFA's in a long time, but there's still some work to be done.

I still reckon PES would be better if Seabass and Co stop treating every aspect of the game on "next-gen" from a year zero perspective (how on earth did they forget kit select in cup mode for a start) and also realise that the PS2 should no longer be in their plans and concentrate fully on the "next-gen" platforms.

Obviously the argument as to which game is better will drag on for years, so there's not that much point to continue arguing about it, it's like certain football teams, you either love them or hate them but by no means can force an opinion onto another.

i have both for xbox 360. IMO, they both annoy the f**k out of me, but all of these people saying that FIFA08 is realistic are on crack.
Fifa08 is pretty... i'll give it that. But as far as a reealistic game of footy goes, forget about it. There is nothing realistic about fifa except maybe the graphics and pace. It's next to impossible to break down the D ands score goals. The skill moves are cool, but pointless to use in game situations vs the cpu because they simply do not work. It's just not an exciting game to play because there is hardly ever any action. Also, your team AI is retarded. Many times when i play FIFA i will pass back to a defender or midfielder and no one will get open. I look at the radar and NO ONE is open. They're not even trying to get open. Also, don't even start on the fouls and free kicks... vs the AI, you can forget about ever scoring on a free kick cuz they never even happen. Seriously, how realistic is that?

This is pretty much how I feel. I've played PES up until this year and have probably played 300+ games of FIFA and yes it's very annoying. I recently picked up PES (US Version) and it's annoying as well, but closer to the real thing by light years over FIFA.

If your definition of realistic is good graphics, licenses, and pace then FIFA is your game. Let me ask you this:

Does FIFA have the following:

*Realistic fouling? Not even close
*Red Cards? Extremely rare, nearly impossible to get.
*Quick restarts after fouls? How can you have quick restarts when there are rarely any fouls called?
*Fatigue. I can't tell the difference between a player that's been on the pitch for 80 minutes and sub brought on in the 78th. Fatigue is non existent.
*Horrid teammate AI
*Injured players receiving treatment and returning to the game?
*Does the CPU adjust tactics and formations? No.
*Is there a noticeable difference between teams and styles of play? Nope.

If FIFA adds those things to the game then they'll be on the right track, until then it's an arcade game with pretty graphics.

I've played both quite extensively now & will have to say... PES6 is lightyears better than both Fifa 08 & PES 2008.

Last year I bought a whole new PC just for PES 2008.
I downloaded FIFA 08 demo and before installing it I checked a couple boards (including this one), and after reading people's statements I deleted FIFA 08 without even giving it a try.

I'm a hardcore PES player, and editor, but I'm finding out more and more mistakes on the gameplay as time goes on, that make the gameplay really unrealistic:
*The way players run, is just dumb. I mean I've never seen a player run like that, robots would run more humanly that PES 2008 players.
*The balls pretty much never curls, it's always a diving shot, straight shots, but you can't curl it.

Now, as I stated before, I've never even played FIFA 08 on PC, because graphics play a big role for me, even tho what matters the most is gameplay.
But I think that before you say "PES is better" or "FIFA is better" you all should make clear on what platform you've tried either one.
I'm buying a XBOX 360 just for FIFA 08 (and upcoming 09) and EURO 2008, because from what I've seen in videos, and from what I've read here and there, FIFA on PS3 and XBOX is comlpetely outstanding.

I can imagine that the people in here who stated PES 2008 as their chosen one are playing it on PC, and the people in here who have played FIFA on PC are hating it. However one of the strong spots of PES 2008 is that it feels pretty much the same on any platform you play it, unlike FIFA 08 which is ONE game on PC and a whole different thing on XBOX 360 or PS3.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but FIFA on those consoles rules big time, as does PES on PC (even tho they still need to fix some big stuff, like mentioned before).

Now we need a voting tool. I mean just a click is needed to vote, e.g 'are you the fan of: 1-PES, 2-FIFA', then to generate and see the result of voting. The due date of voting is unlimited, of course, but at least we can obtain something abt the fans in this forum.

So, both games are coming out soon. Much of PES is under wraps so I wont comment. But from what I see in Fifa's camp, PES has their work cut out for them, again. Fifa will have online leagues, 10 vs. 10, adding I think 15 new stadiums and supposedly making 250 improvements in gameplay. I saw 2 videos and was impressed. Collisions are ultra realistic, trapping and shielding are now implemented, and theres even a ref (finally!). Graphics are outstanding again and online play has always been pretty smooth like butter. Add to that they will have a "Be a Pro" career mode as well. And there are still new additions that havent been unveiled yet.

Now, I will say that I started out a Fifa man way back and was introduced to PES on the PS2 4 years ago and never looked back. PES was hands down, the best footy game period! Winning Eleven 9 (PES4?) is in my top 5 alltime great games and I had such a blast playing it. But since its move to next gen, PES has gone downhill. Looks dated, plays very choppy, roboticlike, inorganic (unlike Fifa 2008). and theyve stripped the game down alot. IMO, Fifa 2008 passed the myth that was PES. And so far, it looks like Fifa 2009 will be a winner and finally stamp it's seal of domination in the footy game market. I am crossing my fingers for PES to finally embrace next gen, but wont hold my breath. They have too much work to do for this upcoming pes to be king. Perhaps in a few years itll be king again.
