FIFA 103: Advanced Tactics

Welcome back! Dobrodosli opet! After 5-6 months of FIFA 2004, the community of FIFA is building up with pricks who dont know how to play football, but they know tricks. I will now write a guide to every gamer in the world, to that boy in a 50 population village that has a 56k modem, that is the great player, but is defenseless against the TRICKS. I also want to dedicate this GUIDE to a RACIST Administrator of ESL ladder, his name is STONYGAN. I have proofs and saved documents on what he did. AND now to the guide.

Corners - There are two high percentage corners

The first one is the SPIN CORNER. The best corner option to choose is DRIVEN. Choose the guy on the far post, that is guy farthest away from the ball. In order to stop the following corners, a defending player must concentrate very hard on one way. Thus, you should mix up a one-two punch of corner kicks. First example, choose Driven, select the Farthest guy, move him to the right 2-3 steps, spin him to the left/right, and run, dont press shoot until the ball is close to the head. If you move the player to the left 2-3 steps, than you spin him to the right. Here is a step by step:

1. Choose Driven
2. Choose Farthest Guy
3. Move him to the right(2-3 steps, just enough to at least change the path)
4. Spin him to the left (so as your are moving him right 2-3 steps, quickly move the analog in a clockwise direction , right-down,left) and RUN
5. 1-2 seconds from the impact with the ball, Press shoot.
TIP: TRY TO AIM PERPENDICULAR to the goal, So either left or right WHEN you are shooting. Diagonal works also, but it goes wide at times
TIP: When you move the guy right, you dont have to spin him the left, you can spin him the right also, it looks unorthodox but it works.
TIP: The execution of the movement+spin must be done instantly or you want have time to get to the spot, so just move little and spin and run

The second type of corner which is used a lot on the #(*&# ESL Ladder goes like this.

1. Choose Driven
2. Choose Farthest Guy
3. Lightly push left analog in diagonal direction(as if you are trying to creep)
4. You can choose to run now if you think the defender is not set in you path, and than press shoot to score.
5. If you think the defender is in the path, light move the analog to the left or right (not diagonal) and run without stopping, pressing shoot at the end.
Tip: pushing the analog lightly means just a little pressure on the analog, not all the way to the boundary of the axis.

STOPING the SPIN CORNER - if a player isnt a master at them, not moving your player is a good choice, than just hold your analog towards your goal in order to push of the player. If the opponent is good at the spin corners and moves sometimes further than not, this is some keys.

TIP:Lightly move your player to where you want him to be BEFORE THE OPPONENT executes the spin. it doesnt matter if you messed up the direction, make sure you execute your final sideway movement before the spin comes. ONce the opponent makes the spin, you hold towards your goal and wait until almost the last second to PRESS SHOOT (or pass if you are quick with passing)

STOPING THE CREEP CORNER - you must defend just as you offend. Wherever the player is creeping , you must creep there to. THat means you dont move your left analog COMPLETELY to left or right, YOU LIGHTLY push it towards the side where the CREEPING player is going than your path should be aligned with the opponent. The only thing left to do is wait until the opponent player creeps where close to you and than HOLD YOUR ANALOG towards you goal.
TIP: Great players, MIX up the paths and types of these 2 corners. You need a lot of concentration in order to stop the WALKING CORNER as you must lightly lighlty creep on the defense.

ONE-TWO PAssing: Good way to freeze the opponent in the moment is to pass very quickly and make runs the same time. This means constantly passing one time passes to each teammate , threading your way towards the goal for a shot. In order to pass quickly and one time, you must tap the pass button for a milisecond right before the ball gets to your player and pointing the analog button in the direction u want to pass. If your player is tighly marked, than you have to HOLD R2 (The walk button) while passing, in order to give yourself an extra second to receive the ball. Here is a step by step:

1. Zidane has the ball, press analog towards beckham plus the pass button.
2. as soon as you press the pass button , ALSO PRESS L1(MAKE PLAYER RUN)
3. right before the ball gets to beckham, point your analog towards ZIDANE and quickly just tap the pass button. THIS will cause bekcham to one time the pass without receiving the ball or turining around to trap or set the ball. IT will be a quick one time pass.
4. As soon as you pressed pass with beckham, also press L1 (make player run button)
5. Do the passes over and over, involing many players around.
TIP: IF THE player is tighltly markes, HOLD R2(walk button) when passing in order to FREEZE UP opponents
WARNING: If the DEFENDER IS controlled by a human, R2 will not work, DO NOT PASS into a player being covered tightly by a human controled player.

RECEIVING THE ground pass - Receiving the ground pass in a great way is very crucial to possesion. After you have crossed the midfield line with your team, YOur player will be marked tighter. When you are receiving a ball with a defender by you, YOU MUST point the ANALOG towards the direction of the ball. THis will make your player come to the ball instead of TURNING RIGHT into the opponent. step by step

1. Zidane passes to Beckham WHILE HOLDING R2
2. Beckham is slowly receiving the ground pass and has a defender on the back
3. In order to gain a little open space or time to JUDGE where the next pass should go. YOU hold your left analog in the DIRECTION where the ball has come from.
TIP: Remember to keep hitting L1 in order to make your players make runs. Do the runs at the right time. In order to make runs affective, ONE TIME passing is a must (or a throughball)

The THROUGHBALL - one of the deadliest things in fifa. The greatest weapon for CROSS minded players. When you are passing in the opponents half and building the attack, you use the throughball to send the ball to the wing. Lets say you have zidane, and he passes to RAUL, BEFORE RAUL gets the ball you FILL UP THE THROUGhball power and point the analog into open space towards ronaldo. Step by step

1. Zidane has ball, passes to RAUL
2. Before RAul gets the ball, setup the throughball, by powering up throughball the required power (takes practice) and holding the left analog towards Ronaldo (or towards goal, any direction that your judgment says is good)
4. when raul gets the ball, your THROUGHBALL command has already been inputed in fifa, and RAUL will automatically send a quick throughball to RONALDO who will burn any defender
Tip: the players are just examples. THIS throughball play is such an unexpected pass, that will surprise/burn a defense most of the times.

KOREAN LOB

This is a bad part of fifa. I thought it was a little bug, but theres players who have perfected the throughball and the korean lob, if you dont slide tackle or use certain formations, THEY will get many of these on you. In order to the korean lob you have GO the ENDLINE, it can be close to sideline or close to penalty box or in between. The difference in these 3 locations is how much you have to power up the lob. here is an example of how to do the korean lob, if you have a RIGHT WINGER going to the RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR MONITOR:

1. Go close to the endline, but not too close
2. Power up LOB around halfway (if you are further from goal, you must power it up more, but NOT TOO MUCH like all the way)
3. As you are powering up lob, you hold your left analog in a DIAGONAL DIRECTION which is NORTHEAST (UP AND RIGHT).
3. As the ball goes towards the goal, the keeper cannot do anything , all you have to do is press shoot. DONT rush the shoot button, once you execute the cross, no one can hit the ball before you so you have couple seconds to see where you want to aim your header.

OBC BULLET PASS - An unreleastic LOW fast lob to a player down the field. IT is executed like this:

1. Press OFF BALL CONTROL
2. CHOOSE player 1 2 or 3
3. Move the chosen player a little bit (it can be a tap of right analog)
4. HOLD R2(walk button) as you POWEr up lob
TIP: u dont have to power up lob too much, just a little
Tip: when moving the OBC player, you can tap the right analog, if you are rushing to do the bullet pass.
TIP: Bullet passes can be executed as a one time pass, BY ENTERING THE SEQUENCE before your player receives the ball.

OBC HEADER - THis is a header where you choose OBC, than a player and move him at the right time in order for him to get the ball before the keeper. It Goes like this:

1. Choose OBC (off ball control)
2. Choose player 1, 2 , or 3 (tip: player 2 is usually the best choice because of poisition)
3. Start moving the OBC PLAYER towards the goal, AS SOON as he PASSES the PENalty DOT, PRESS LOB, and than shoot as the ball is coming close to him. The keeper will stand defenseless

OBC SELECT HEADER - This is the same exact thing as OBC Header, but instead of moving the OBC player manually with the RIGHT ANALOG. All you have to do is PRESS SELECT. This causes the computer to think you dont have a right analog, and it moves the OBC PLAYER in the direction he is facing. THIS IS A VERY effective way to score once you get quick with your fingers/controls

1. Select OBC
2. Select OBC PLAYER (#2 is the only one that really works, because he is already in the POSITITION where u want your player)
3. PRESS SELECT, and as soon as you press select, RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT after you press select, you must press Lob(you can tap it) and than head the ball in.
TIP: REMEMBER, when you are crossing the ball, you must cross it from the SIDE, not from midfield or something, you have to be on the LEFT OR RIGHT wing.
TIP: As soon as you hit SELECT, you must press lob, its a hard sequence to do when being pressured, but if u get good, than its very rewarding.

OBC BULLET PASS Header/one touch shot - This is a combination of BULLET pass and header. you send a BULLET pass cross to a player in the penalty box and since the pass is so fast, you have time to at least shoot as the keeper is dumbfounder. IF you want to head the ball in instead of onetiming it in, you press PASS button towards the goal right before the ball gets to your head.

1. Press OBC
2. Choose OBC PLAYER (usually #2 is best choice)
3. Move the OBC PLAYER DIagonally away from your PASSER, but towards the GOAL.
SO, if beckham is at the bottom of the monitor, you move ronaldo UP and RIGHT(towards goal).
This run by ronaldo has to be a HARD right analog RUN, but a short run, maybe 2-4 steps. The best position to be in is close the the FAR POST because the keeper is creeping towards the side of your passer and when you send the bullet pass, THE keeper cannot recover quickly enough to stop your one time shot.
4. HOLD R2(walk button) while power up LOB (halfway or more)
5. before or right when u get the ball, just tap SHOOT button and the player will EFFORTLESSLY tap the ball in the empty net.
6. IF you want to head the ball, you gotta make that run a little more closer to the middle of goal, SO YOU STILL gotta run DIAGONALLY away, but dont run to the end of FAR post. Right before the Ball gets the your player, TAP THE PASS BUTTON and point the left analog towards the goal

THROUGHLOB - THis is a throughball lob. It is a lob which sends the ball over your player and makes him chase it. A regular lob button makes the ball go directly to your player. A throughlob makes the player RUN ON THE LOB/chase it. THe throughlob is executed by HOLDING R2(walk button) and powering up LOB to an appopriate power.
TIP: you have to practice the POWER and DISTANCE correlation in order to know how much to power up at certain times.
TIP: the THROUGHLOB is a great way to switch fields, WHEN YOU want to switch from left to the FAR RIGHT of the field, A THROUGHLOB will work as a FAST LOW lob. YOu must have the right power powered up though.

Keeper Charge - if a player is on a breakaway, start charging with your keeper to SHORTEN the angles available to the shooter. ONCE you have COME OUT a certain distance with the keeper, LET GO OF THE KEEPER charge button so get the keeper set for a save

TRAPPING OBC LOBS - There are players all over, who now use this Trap when receiving OBC balls. The main thing is to make at least some type of a run with your OBC PLAYER, than power up lob. as your getting ready to receive the ball, you power up THROUGHBALL, this will cause your player to fully receive the ball with the other player not being able to get it. There are otherwise to receive the OBC LOB, like for examples. You choose OBC, than make a "J" look-alike run with your OBC player. You first run the towards the goal, than you curl the player in towards you, than you power up lob. THis will make him hold off the ball and trap it nicely giving you options to pass on the ball.

OBC LOB INSIDE penalty box - This is a method used to create PENALTIES or goal if not a penalty. what you do is press OFF BAll control (OBC) than you choose your OBC player, than move your OBC PLAYER LIGHTLY inside the penalty box. BUT YOU have to move him lightly in order to KEEP HIM FACING YOUR PASSER. you will know you didnt do it right if he TURNS around and runs. HERE is the step by step
1. CHoose OBC
2. Choose OBC player inside the box
3. Back him up lightly right around the penalty box,VERY LIGHTLY so he keeps facing you
4. power up lob
5. As you are receiving the ball, power up THROUGHball, or hold turbo (these are methods to trap the ball nicely) but as you are powering up throughball or holding turbo, you must try to go in direction opposite of your defender so u can protect the ball.

FORMATIONS OF WORLD CLASS PLAYERS (They wont protest heh)

4-3-1-2 neutral neutral possesion off
3-5-2 neutral pressing/neutral possesion off
4-2-4 neutral neutral possesion off
4-4-2 attacking neutral possesion off

These are the 3,4 MOSt used formations among the world class players from www.superleagues.net, fifa easports online, etc

Team mentality: playing an opponent who is inferior to you, you choose ATTACKING, playing oponent close to you CHOOSE NEUTRAL, playing opponent who is far better than you choose defend. DEFEND mentality will cause your players/defenders to stay DEEP back in the defense, but the backside is your offense wont flow as smoothly as when you are NEUTRAL or attacking.

Defense: Neutral is for advanced palyers who know when to use 2nd defender option. Pressure is not so good when playing a one-touch style offense (such as the pretty style play of Netherlands national team) because your computer players will bite and pressure every player, thus falling out of the defending equation and leaving the QUICK opponent open spaces

Possesion is to have your teammates work and run for you
Longball is when you want to send longball to forwards everytime, kickball
Wingplay is when you want to OBC , korean lob your opponent .

Switching style of play in the game is good because your opponent cannot decide on what is your TYPIAL OUTCOME OF FINISHING.

Im gonna take an example from a world class player nicknamed Detrimental09. He has developed various styles of attack. The original one-two passing which creates a long shot..., the longball..., the korean lob/obc cross. When you play a player like him you have to have everything covered, you cant just stack up the middle and let the wings be semicovered. If you take wings completely by running the sideline, he'll go in the middle. This is an example of how DANGEROUS a player can be by MASTERING every kind of STYLE OF PLAY.

The offside option makes your defenders push up close to the halfline and stay with your squad if its ON. also at certain times they will try to TRAP a player offsides for example, WHEN the oponents slowly executes an OBC , theres a good chance the player will be offside. TURNING offside off will cause defenders to run with your opponents to wherever they run.
WARNING: This is not an extreme statement, theres no guaranteed way to do things and tired players wont think or perform as good as fresh players, therefore causing the OFFSIDE trap to be ruined at times.

Playing defense: FIRST of all, you must set your GAME SETTING to HOME and AWAY SWITCHING to 0. THis will make YOU BE THE MAIN SWITCHER of defenders, instead of the computer randomly switching the control of your defenders. WAIT FOR THE offense to come to you, SET YOUR POSITION AND HOLD IT, dont rush at things all the time, because A GREAT PLAYER will pass around till YOUR TURBO CHARGE/burst stamina is GONE THAN attack you, than when you get the ball back, you wont have any energy. Just relax dont go in for tackles all the time, once the ball starts getting close to the sidelines or near edge of box, you can SPRINT to get to some OPPONENT, but dont chase anyone in the open field UNLESS YOU ARE CERTAIN you will CAUSE SOME TYPE of MISDIRECTION or STEAL.

I hope this sets equal weapons for every FIFA 2004 player around the world. If you dont understand some things, print out the guide, go into practice mode and TRY it, if its not working right, THAN you didnt execute write, try a slight ANGLE variation for example while doing korean lob, if its not going, TRY a 40 or 35 degreed northeast diagonall instead of a 45 degree.

I now have to give a thanks to the ones who have helped push me to the top and to great friends Ive met throughout these months in the FIFA community

Detrimental09 (easports online nickname) - World class player, great friend, because of daily practices and games with him, I have become a great FIFA player

SHUTOUT once again to STONYGAN (the german administrator of ESL LADDER) who has chosen to ban my account on esl ladder by saying i have tried to DECEIT him with the score OF HIS FELLOW german who had no evidence. ONCE AGAIN STONYGAN, SHUTOUT TO YOU FOR LOCKING MY ACCOUNT when compared to a fellow german, but when i won 3-0 without evidence you deleted my win

I hope this guide helps increase the greatness of players online. My wish is to go online and have a 1500 rated player be just as dangerous to a 2000 player as another 2000 player.

SEE YOU IN WCG!

This is something that the Administrator of this website would/should/could ban. His advertisements of the Fifa 2004 book that u gotta pay for (15 dollars or so) is BULLsh!t compared to this guide Jev has shown u. After reading this guide.. you wont need to pay for anything.

I personally believe that the element of surprise is best to defeat your opponent, however, I also believe it is important to have Strong competition and to know if you are the best.. then ull know it wasnt simply due to 'tricks', however, through discipline and practice to utilize all these tricks.

This is the best Tipz/Tricks guide in the world and I am CERTAIN this is so. Ive played against some of the best players in the world with proven testimate in the Online leagues (esl, superleagues, my own club league, etc). I have even played against some professional Fifa gamers from korea and germany. Although I am only able to compete against them Online, I have seen their games on Satellite TV aswell. The tips used in this guide are the ways they score their goals. I am not here bragging about the players ive played.. I am simply saying that the worlds best fifa gamers know about these tricks so here they are for you to enjoy.

The only thing that will separate the best player in the world to the lesser skilled, is the gameplay and passing. That is the basis of fifa, PASSING.. some of this tricks can be stopped ahead of time either by luck or sheer perfect defence.. But the game is won with goals, thus.. one must become great at the pass, R2 pass, and the Thruball. The rest of these tips are just ways for u to score w/o a problem. ;)

If Jev gets any flamers on this post, i think ill literally cry of laughter cuz no guide beats this unless its kept private and away from the world :-x

Jev:

Your time and effort produced by far the greatest advanced guide that will be ever available for Fifa 2004. You have listed tricks and tips that have taken most if not all of the top players in the world of competitive Fifa all these months to come up with. Nobody will have an excuse after following this guide. It is a priveledge to have this in printable format. Thank you.

Your generosity and competitiveness made you one of my most respected opponents in Fifa 2004 from the very start, and it's an honor to know I can look forward to learning more with you in this version and future versions. Godspeed Jevrej.

Of course you could follow the tried and trusted guide to winning in FIFA 2004:

(1) Shoot from 45 yards out and score 75% of the time.

eh, that's it.....

i definately know whats its like playing against some1 like detrimental who has great variety of attacks and element of surprise, where in 60th min of the game ur tied 1-1 , and then in next 2-3 mins he scores 3-4 goals on u and u dont even know wat hit u. Just when u thought u had him, and u get relaxed, u get hit from out of nowhere. That takes talent that u gotta be born with, u dont just learn that **** by playing, otherwise in real life every1 would be a proffesional player.

I haven't played online, but I think its like any other game: Absolutely anyone can play it, a great bunch of people can play it online, few people can actually be good, but being at the level this guy's are, IT SHOULD take a great amount of practice, perseverance and, of course, skill.

Hi all. Thanks Jevrej for this great fifa guide. Also thanks bro for u're nice words :P
This is the most complete guide I've read, only one thing misses... FREEKICKS ;o)
Also that's a good list of top players to play online, I played them all, and I think I learned with all of them. We grow together as fifa players. It's also nice to see that of these players, 4 belong to Tafoda team, our little family on easo :D
Thanx for this guide, thanx for our games. I hope we can be good players too in the future fifa 2005 and keep our little fifa family ;o)
Cya all

agreed emanuel, but free kicks dont take any tricks. Everyone knows every single possibility of free kicks, SO i believe players can go into practice mode and work for an hour or so on Free kicks like some dedicated players, in order to find out what free kicks work

EmanuelCB

Yeah mate, but in a guide I think everything should appear. There are different ways of scoring freekicks but I believe there are people who wanna know how. I think there's a thread asking how to do it.

Can you do this with a keyboard? Which key is SELECT? It's not "z" cause pressing it just change the selection on the player.

SELECT button is the button found on an original PLAYSTATION 2 controller. The button right by the START BUTTON. I couldnt tell you what button on the keyboard represents the SELECT button

But the select button doesnt do anything else, except makes the player move when you have OBC enabled

if anyone knows what button on keyboard represents the SELECT button on controller, let this man know please
