FIFA 2008 (360, PS3) vs. PES 2008 (360, PS3)

From what we have seen so far, who do you think has really arrived as a next gen game? Fifa 2008 or PES 2008? Previous biases aside please. What game looks next gen graphically? has new features? has improved in their respective weak areas?

I'll start w/ my impressions from seeing developer videos, reading info and watching various videos:

Fifa 2008 = Improved graphics, animations, gameplay. Love the Be a Pro mode where you play as only 1 player. Love the 5 vs. 5 online where you play as 1 player and humans control the other 4 while the AI controls the rest. Love the idea that by 2010 EA plan to grab the best 11 players from each country and have a virtual World Cup (each player controlling 1 character). Liscenses are all there and the inclusion of 30 leagues again.

PES 2008 = same good gameplay. They fixed the robotic choppy marching running. I hear they will have a very deep editing system which I would love. Unfortunately, the gfx look like PS2 gfx, the menus, overall presentation, audio are still horrid and amateur looking. No mention yet of online improvements which were bad on the last 360 PES.

Online might be what seals the deal for FIFA. I saw the same developer thing you talk about, and I like the idea they are working towards 11 V 11. Regardless of which is better this year, FIFA might be a must buy simply for the online play.

Well that, and being here in North America ensures FIFA comes out months before PES/WE. Konami really shoots themselves in the foot sometimes.

Well from what i've seen, Fifa will win hands down..........

But i will still get them both as i all ways do......:crazyboy: (mabe for the last time)

I don't know why konami do this to them selves thay could have won this race by now, but thay are still putting out the same game thay have done for years, with very little improvements to the game.
I dont think that thay will get away with this for much longer. (muppet's)

i've played both FIFA08 and PES2008.

FIFA is ahead easily, just wait til you play PES2008 then go back and play FIFA, it's a totally simulated experience in FIFA, whereas Pro Evo now feels like the arcade game FIFA once was.

Based on the demo's I rate them both an 8/10 - They are both good games just different experiences - I don't think its possible to say which is better till you have had about 1-2 weeks with the full game.
Fifa does have something going on this year that seems to make it feel like a next generation game. Some people say the full game plays a little better than the demo - also with the demo you are only playing a 4 minute half -

Pes feels like an xbox game - granted the gameplay is good - but what the hell did they do for a whole year- very strange - the main thing here is that you are basically playing the same game you have been for 5 years now - fifa just gives you a new experience which is fun.

living in the US I will be all over fifa 08, till Feb/march - its kind of cool as I would lose my mind if both came out at once - 4-5 months of 1 game usually starts to get old.

I have seen a few reviews for fifa 08 and the majority only give it around 7 marks, i know graphically it looks pretty good. Lets face it we all know what we want most in a football game and that is great gameplay. The reviews i have read are from professional game reviewers. These reviews are what we count on before we spend our money. Out of the all the reviews i have read i don't believe they are all pes fanboys.

Actually rating is around 8, not 7. Which is imho pretty good. And when most of bashing is about slow speed(compared to PES) it is pretty good reviewing.

So obviously not all aren't PES/FIFA fanboys, but in these sites over 50% are just bashing/praising other game because of it's title, not because of actual game.

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/938657.asp here are some reviews and you can check different IGN reviews as well: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/822/822994p1.html and http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/822/822487p1.html

It's averaging 81% on gamerankings. Those that gave it below 80% say it's too slow and too hard:| also, Im sure those reviews came from people who played it for 10 minutes and got frustrated. Some reviews also said that if it weren't so hard it'd get a 90% rating or better! I'm looking forward to it when it comes out here in the EEUU. It's total simulation which is what I always wanted from Fifa. PES looks sooo last gen. No thanks. +the Fifa 360 physics p!ss all over PES, tenfold.

Seems that this mode has been greatly reduced in Pes 2008, and the Pes die hards out there are not to happy

Overall i believe that Fifa's package has a lot of depth with plenty to do both in SP and MP, being in australia last seasons online Pes experience was woeful, unless i played along with other aussie players, Fifa 08 online mode is excellent, and have had very few issues with lag even when playing guys from across the pond in the UK, from all the reading i have done regarding Pes 2008 this season, it looks to me a bit disappointing, 2 years in the making, and really not much more to show for it, from what i have read and seen

Fifa 08 has amazing gameplay now. What I love is the through ball manual, which takes a lot of skill to master. It is a total simulation now. And PES is going the arcade way which is fun but not realistic. I think Fifa will finally win the battle this year. And I have been with PES since the last fifa I liked which was 98

Well I've been playing the demo now for about a week for Fifa and the gameplay actually seems pretty good. Last year the thing that made me play PES was the awful shooting in Fifa, but they have definitely fixed that judging by the demo. The shots realistically swerve into the top corner and it really makes me want to get up and celebrate when I score.
Also in PES the online play isn't great where as in Fifa I really want to start the interactive leagues.
So as of right now I've gone back to Fifa after two years, thanks to the stupidity of Konami's release date in North America.

**** off Konami. At least until February.:shades:

This pretty much concludes the whole comparism of fifa 08 and PES 2008.

i left fifa after playing fifa 1999... ever since the PES series have been the greatest joy.i still have not got the game but the demo, game reviews, forum people opinions,... tell me enough...it seems that i'm going to have to go back to fifa! :'(
The demo of PES 2008 shocked me the way it's became so arcade.you don't need to think anymore, all you got to do is take a top team with someone who is fast and is able to dribble and voila, you can easily dribble the whole opposition.this is sadening and even sickening cause even guys that don't no how to play the game and who's ass i've been kicking for many years because i mastered everything better than them and had more experience, can now pick up the controller, take a top team and give me a real a@@ kicking!

i was hoping that the final version of the game would be a big change to the demo but from what i'm hearing it seems this is not the case.

Anyway, i'm still going to try the full game (which i'll be having later) but i'm not looking foward to it as in comparison to other years.if i see that it still has this arcade feeling(old feeling that i had playing fifa) like the demo then PES can say goodbye to one more fan...at least till next year

dissapointment...fifa08...here i come :( :( :(

good post darkmarnlaw i agree with u, me 2 i am not lookingf oward to it as in the past versions for the same reasens as u mantion it, it feels fast & easy, still getting it 2morrow though hoping the game it plays slower & better compeared to the demo on xbox360. at the and of the day i still belive it will be a good fun game, especialy playing with friends.
i played fifa08 for 3weeks & i am already bored with it & i am planing on selling it on ebay, dont get me wrong fifa its better then it ever was, but it still lucks on the gameplay depth department, & thats the reasen why i like pes over fifa, even though pes it doesn't look next-gen game & it may have some slowdowns as some people has mantion, i am sure i ll still be playing more then any other game for the hole year

I think Pes 08 is an unadulterated pile of %7$t. I am not just disappointed, I'm a little angry. Where is the finesse? I haven't yet played Fifa 08, think I might download the demo tonight and give it a whirl...

At the end of the day though, I have a sneaking suspicion that I will be sticking with PES 6, which in my view is still the best game around (the graphics aren't that bad with everything on mentally high - set in the driver) and the gameplay is just amazing...
