Hmm about locking of CEP database, looks like Okham is punishing the whole world because of 1 guy who copywrited his work in FIFA 06. ROFL!!!

In my opinion, if one wants to make a patch, no matter how big it is, they should really spend time and passion to complete their work isn't it? For the CEP, like 1 of the member of the previous post said that some of the things are taken from previous FIFA game, thats ridiculous in the sense changing what is improved in the current FIFA game. Also in the CEP, i find that the front number for lots of international teams are missing and shorts number for lots of clubs and international team are also missing. Ever seen teams playing without front number (for international) and short number (for both international and clubs) on TV before? 1 last thing, the player numbers are all wrong!!!

So let me tell you this Okham. If you really want to make a patch, please complete and make a good patch if you got the time and passion. If not, den dont make that patch and release to people around the world, let others do the job instead. Unlike in FIFA 06, i can see that time and effort you had put in are too far from satisfaction. Hope you can put in more effort this time and PLEASE DONT GET STUFF FROM PREVIOUS FIFA GAME. That is not the way to make a good update. Hope that my words are fair to you and every FIFA gamers

and as I've responded to his post, I don't think he's right, because we are talking about editing data and I don't see anything in CM that infringes on EA's IP in any meaningful way (though that's not to say that that would stop them sending 'cease and desist' notices, or even sending the boys round)

I'm not an expert for copyrights but keep in mind that EA pay a lot of money to the different leagues and associations like Fifpro to have the right to use the proper names of the players, teams , equipment etc...it's not a free service...( PES for ex. did not buy the licence for certain leagues , that's why there are fake names in some leagues and teams )
so the database is also a sensitive case in a way ...For 2 years I think, a PES site was forced to remove all the patches dealing with the EPL because of the copyrights owned by the league itself...We live in a world ruled by internet and there is an army of lawyers ready to get in action to "protect" the rights of their clients...easy money to make ...
That's why I always laugh when I see the comments of some kitmakers for ex, ( this guy stole my collar, or he's copied my adidas stripes... ) Did they ask Nike, Adidas, Umbro etc.. to copy their logos or kits ?
so, to come back to the story, I think EA is just fair enough to let the game be edited ...It's a kind of gentlemen agreement...but it could come to an end too ( of course I hope not )

Assuming that it hasn't changed from the demo, then no (I don't have the game, and don't intend to drop thirty quid for a roster update and a handful of gameplay tweaks) but there are some significant changes to the player data that would require a major re-work of the attribute page.

I understand your point Steve. IF it's just attributes, then there really shouldn't be much work for Rinaldo to do. He could just release an updated CM 07 with FIFA 08 compatibility instead of wasting a lot of time and energy making a brand new CM tool. All I edited in FIFA 07 was attributes for certain players as well as adding players that were missing on certain teams.

For sure, this definitely deserves my first post.
I've been modding plenty of games lately, it's fun, I do it to cure boredom and get more from the game (BF2, GTA, COD, GTR2 and so on). People like Rinaldo keep me busy, keep my games playable. Hats off to the them talented guys.

How many hours do you think, it takes to create a tool that works perfect?
Honestly, I don't know, but it must be ages.

Me? No! But many people will, leaving a lot of people, unable to mod. Kinda shady.

That's just my point right there. A new game and everyone goes running to Rinaldo, Monkey Dragon, and other editors demanding the tools ASAP. Everyone is always rushing the editors to put out their tools or patches to a point where the editors either charges money for it or makes it to where you can't even modify a teams rating.

To be honest I don't care how long it takes Monkey Dragon, Esterry, OckHAM or Rinaldo to release their stuff. They can take their time as I'm still pretty entertained with FIFA 07.

You did not understand me. I just said about CF 'cause they did the same think like you will do. You had to pay for every SINGLE file from they site. I agree here entirely. If '08 comes out in october, lets see if we can give Rinaldo at least 2 months to put it out and hope for the game by Xmas. If that's not enough time then we'll just wait a little longer, who really cares when we move over. FIFA '07 would have worked fine for us if we never heard of '08. Just stay with the old version until the editors are available. You won't be far behind.

I don't think that that is comparing 'like for like'. They may have had to remove content that was someone's IP, but no doubt not the editing tools that were used to make that content. The only path I could see for EA to build a genuine case would be over 'reverse engineering' but again I don't see that reverse engineering data formats can be considered illegal, so as long as the code itself hasn't been reverse engineered as part of decoding the data (and I know it isn't necessary to do so - I worked out all I know about the data structures by trial and error) then that approach has no merit. Doesn't stop them threatening, of course, which is generally the approach taken by large corporations that can afford teams of lawyers (and other bully boys)
