I have two wireless and one wired Thrustmaster dual analog controllers (Firestorm Wireless and Dual Power 3) and both allow me a greater range of movement than an eight way D-pad. It is not possible to run at any angle but I'd reckon that there are at least 32 segments, possibly more.

All I can suggest would be to try and hack the registry (take a backup first) and change all references to your controller to a name that the game supports (Logitech Dual Action is probably your best bet). I had to change my Thrustmaster wireless controllers to 'Firestorm Wireless Gamepad' (don't remember the original name, but it had Thrustmaster in it, and a TM somewhere along the way too) in order for the game to recognise them properly (and enable the right stick)

You can find the name that FIFA 2005 sees for your pad by looking at CONFIG.DAT in the FIFA 2005\User directory in your My Documents and if you look in the FIFA 2005 program folder, in directory data\system you should find a different CONFIG.DAT that details the names of all the cards that the game supports, and what their names are expected to be. Scan the registry for all examples of the name from the user file, and replace with one of the Dual Action names from the game structure, and you might find things improve. No promises, but given a backup to fall back on, you should be no worse off than you are now

thanks alot steve but ive been trying this so many times now :P
i think what you were talking about was "Thrustmaster FireStorm(TM) Dual Power 4 Gamepad". ive tried this one, it works but still only 8 directions.

Thanks for your help, i will try "Logitech DualAction USB" :jap:

edit: i tried, and the right analogue stick didnt work properly let alone the left analogue stick still only had 8 directions.. sigh..

will buying a better controller help? (i have some cheap ass no-brand controller) :jambo:

Who's to say?? I'd hate to send you on a wild-goose chase, especially one that cost you money. FWIW I have always had trouble getting Gravis analogue controllers to work with FIFA games, but the Thrustmaster sticks have proven to be fairly reliable with FIFA 2004 and 2005. Strange things do happen though (like the right analog stick on the wired controller ceasing to work when I added the wireless ones) so it is by no means an exact science.

Sorry :(

ah well that is strange because the only thing which i can see which may upset the range of directions is which controller Fifa recognizes.

BTW im talking about UCL 04/05 (i dunno maybe that doesnt support more than 8 directions)

So i the way i see it, if i change in my reg to the right controller, fifa will think 'ohh its that analogue one with many angles' and then it will work?

Sorry if im wrong, and also i'll post on the UCL boarsd to see if the game supports the 8+ directions
