Fifa's Sepp Blatter denies football has racism problem

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15766976.stm - video interview there.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter does not believe football has a problem with racism on the field despite the Football Association investigating two cases of alleged racial abuse in England.

Blatter admits derogatory comments may be made by players during a match, but says it is all "forgotten" by the end of the game and strongly denies there is racism on the field of play.

Surely times up for this crazy fella.

I really thought we were over the worst period of racism in football, especially in the English game, so I am doubly disappointed by what has happened lately. But it's not something FIFA can do much about, it has to be down to the individual FAs. If these allegations are proved I hope the players are dealt with incredibly harshly, and this comes from a Chelsea fan.

Like, I mean, I would like to see an automatic one year ban for a first racist comment from a footballer and a lifetime ban for a second. It really is that serious, almost unforgivable.

Well that seems crazy to me, and I absolutely despise racism. I think with cameras it would be great to ban fans from stadiums for racist chants or banana throwing, but it's another thing for players. I don't know why, I guess because I feel bad about taking away someone's livelihood I guess? Or maybe that what's said and done on the pitch IS somehow different from everywhere else in life. I don't really think players should be criminally charged with battery for batteries on the pitch either. I don't agree with Blatter's comments AT ALL, but I never thought I'd say this... I KINDA see where he's coming from. There should obviously be a few game bans, but a season seems way too excessive. Maybe it's because stuff like that doesn't happen in American sports, so I don't see it as much of a problem as you might?

Oh and tits.
Funny thing is........Suarez could be punished without any evidence whatsoever and Terry after admitting is still. Being or not being racist he still made those comments. The English FA take moral high ground on every other issue not related to them...........LOL.

Bdw.......why theres no outrage from anybody about what our manager is put through by opposition fans week in week out? English hate the French?

Terry admitted it? I haven't had internet access for a while, but I'm pretty sure that's completely false.

And do you know why no one cares about Arsenal? Because you're from Dhaka. BAM! Ban me from football.

Terry might not be racist but he called Anton Ferdinand a black ****. He is your type.

No one cares about Arsenal? HA! Media people obviously give me a different impression. They seem to be obsessed about Arsenal.

"black ****" is what he says? Is that even racist? It's racial, sure, but **** isn't a racist term. I was under the impression that he used the n-word.

It's totally blown out of proportion. I agree with Shifty. Maybe it just isn't the same way as it is in America, but calling someone a black **** isn't exactly a racist term. It's like calling me a dirty Mexican. Big ******* deal. I'll probably laugh it off if I'm called that. I don't consider it racist. Ignorant maybe.

Yeah, blown way out of proportion. I've read people's comments on this on another forum and I'm shocked at how furious they are. Actually, on that forum, I got a ban for a couple of days when there was talk of people calling Marcelo a monkey. I said that he is a monkey, nothing to do with his race, but he acts like one. It's ridiculous. Monkey is a term that's used for people of all origins to refer to their stupidity or whatever. But if you use it for a slightly dark-skinned guy, and even say that you think he acts like a monkey, it's worthy of a racist ban?

To me the problem is that it was said by the president of FIFA, if he thinks that way, he shoud've stayed quiet, now he, as an authority figure, gave the actual racists on the terraces something to justify their actions with. And by saying Blatter's an authority figure, I don't mean to say that far-right ultras/hooligans would give a **** about him, just that his words will now be used as a part of racist demagogy.

I'm not going to my hometown teams matches anymore because of a neo-nazi group that has pretty much monopolized the support for the team (n*igga-chants, auschwitz chants etc). They're probably really happy about Blatters statement.

Clash said it well. The problem is with what Blatter said and not with what Terry or Suarez said. As the president of FIFA, you're supposed to condemn racism, not minimize it's effects. If not, what's with all those speeches on racism before international matches? What's with all the "say no to racism" campaigns? If racism in football is not really a problem, then spending money on useless media campaigns certainly is.

****! I used "racism" way too many times...

I was always taught that the n word was something you just absolutely do not say as a white person. I know people do, but it just always makes me feel dirty when i hear it used. So there are parts of the US where it's pretty damn taboo, too.

Nobody's used the n-word. There's an offensive word that has nothing to do with race, and a racial attribute - black. That's not racist. The n-word is a whole other story.

I was under the impression that that was the censored word after black. I agree that the term "black" isn't inherently racist.
