Houllier lands Lyon job

Lyon have named Gerard Houllier as their new manager.

The French champions have named Houllier as the successor to Paul Le Guen after he revealed earlier this month he would be stepping down at the end of the season.

Houllier, who has been out of work since leaving Liverpool last summer, has signed a two-year deal at Lyon with the option of a third.

The former France national team coach has beaten a host of top names for the post at Stade Gerland.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas admitted he was looking for an experienced manager at the helm and Houllier has a wealth of experience in club and international football.

"We are very happy to greet Gerard, who becomes the club's new coach,"said Aulas.

"I am privately convinced it is the right choice,"

Houllier has a tough act to follow in Le Guen with the former France international helping Lyon win the title for the last three seasons.

Paul Le Guen has left Lyon after their victory in Ligue 1. He'll replace by Houiller, it means Lyon wants to grew-up in Europe and needs Houiller's experience...

Gerarad really has something to prove. He left Liverpool in sorry circumstances and with the impression of failure. He was starting to looking like a bumbling idiot.

I wish him well at Lyon.

He did alright at Liverpool..He just took them as far as he could. 9 of the starting 11 from Liverpool's European Cup winning team were Houllier players..

I reckon he will do ok for Lyon.

I still respect what Houllier did for liverpool despite his bungling the last 2 seasons that he was there. All the best mate (Y)

I wonder where Le Guen will popup because he did great things with Lyon. Anywayz on Houillier I wish him the best, especially since Lyon is my favorite French club. I'm not so sure if he's the best man for the job, but I guess he atleast deserves a chance to prove himself. Wonder what he plans for the transfer market?

When Houllier took liverpool they were in shambles, struggling, he took them consistently in the top 4 (minus 1 season), he raised expections, I guess he suffered for it at the end.

True in a sense, but i think he cut his own throat when he signed Diouf, Diao and Cheyrou in the one summer. None of them made any impact.

Le guen has gone to Paris Saint Germain now right? maybe im getting confused but thats wat i herd.
No, he wants to coach a foreign team. He played for PSG when they won C2, but he won't coach the team. Laurent Fournier will continue his job next year.
