Germany vs United States [P/R]

Please, USA B- team (composed of out of season MLS players) losing in Germany is no big deal. Especially considering they held them through the whole first half.

Anyway, both of the Center back (Berhalter and Conrad) will definately not be making it to the World cup squad.

Seriously, Germany was crap today until the US boys got tired in the second half. You gotta outplay such an opponent and not rely on the physcial game (B team or not).

Give the German team a few weeks to work on tactics and to get to know each other before the World Cup. Good teamwork and passion can make up for a lack of footballing skills.

Germany look strong. Better than I expected. what a header goal by Ballack !

Really? I think the US defense made them look good because Germany was garbage. I mean yes they won the game categorically but 3 out of the 4 goals were out of US defense errors that I'd rather not think about (had Gooch, Bocanegra, Lewis and Pope been there those would not have happened). Germany just took advantage of US's mistakes. In the first half though Germany was pretty bad, I mean when a US B team defense comprised of almost all MLS players is making your attack look silly there's a problem.

USA will take out the anger of this loss on lowly Jamaica, I say a 8-0 thrashing :jap:

Anyway congrats Germany, at least you have the fans back on your teams side (Y)

Player grades:

Keller - 6 (not at fault for any of the goals, but perhaps could have done better)

Gibbs - 7.5 (our best defender)
Berhalter - 4 (even when he wasn't gifting Germany goals, he was far from stellar)
Conrad - 4.5 (one big error which lead to a goal)

Zavagnin - 6 (decent game, but he's not good enough to play at this level)
Mastroeni - 7.5 (man of the match for the US, he CAN play at this level - but we already knew that)
Cherundolo - 7 (worked hard and did rather well)
Convey - 7 (our most dangerous attacking player, I think he can challenge Beasley for the left mid spot)
Klein - 5 (another player who just can't play at this level)

Ching - 5.5 (did OK, wasn't given much to work with)
Johnson - 6 (better than the Poland game, but still needs improvement)

This game was a pretty good way to separate the pretenders from the contenders.

Defense - Pretenders:

Berhalter
Conrad

Defense - Contenders:

Gibbs
Cherundolo

Midfield - Pretenders:

Zavagnin
Klein

Midfield - Contenders:

Mastroeni
Convey

I don't think this really applies to the forwards because of our lack of depth in that position.

I'm not disappointed with this game because the players the US can realistically expect to see at the World Cup played well. Especially encouraging were Gibbs and Mastroeni, who have had some serious injury issues in recent years.

I think Berhalter might be done, and perhaps Conrad as well. Onyewu, Gibbs, Bocanegra and Pope will be our center backs at the World Cup.

4 - 1 was to be expected but unfortunately doesnt reverse the reverse scoreline against Italy :(

The US would have won if:

1) Frankie had played.
2) They had listened to the MOTD theme at least 17 times prior to kick-off.

I'm out.
