Hey everybody,

I just wanted to come in here and say with regret that I'm leaving the Konami soccer world behind indefinitely. For those who have known me for a number of years, I came over from the FIFA arena about 3 years ago after disgust at the way FIFA had been going with the gameplay and I embraced the Konami gameplay despite the lack of licensing etc. FIFA was so bad in those days even the licenses couldn't cover up the pinball, bad physics pile of crap that was FIFA 2002-05.

Well, I've just been playing FIFA 2006 demo and the game has made huge leaps and although it's totally copied the Konami gameplay (took them a while to realize this was theo nly way ot go but the lightbulb came on eventually!), it's at last more than playable and an enjoyable experience. Most importantly, it had all the atmosphere that comes with the licenses, authentic sounds, uniforms etc. Don't get me wrong, WE/PES still has better (sharper) graphics to be honest.

After playing WE9 this month there are just too many things that have ruined the game for me now:

1 - Patching. The lack of licenses means patch after patch after patch and it's just getting tiring. Even if I'm not making them myself I'm having to wait for others to make something semi-realistic. Now Konami have re-encoded the files yet again to prevent editors making uniforms for the game. Did they not work out that it was the editors who have been making patches for these games over hte last few years who have boosted the popularity of the game and got some of the FIFA license-whores to switch over? Konami have done nothing to help the editing scene (except for the in-game editor which is fantastic but way beyond the average person) and have forced people to get chipped/modded consoles to have a realistic experience.

2 - The multi-versions! When is this going to stop. How much would it hurt them to create a version with multi-languages? I know people can say "you don't need to get them all" but let's be honest, who doesn't want the latest and apparently greatest version or wants to wait 3 months (or 6 in the USA) to get it. It's got to the point where there are 5-6 versions coming out every year.

3 - The gameplay. Sorry but as many improvements as there are, the introduction of long shots which go in too frequently (one of the reasons I switched from FIFA in the first place!) and this constant calling of fouls even shoulder-to-shoulder just has ruined the game for me. On average I can score 3 or 4 long range goals a game unless I play with a crappy side. The fouls make the game so stop-start it gets tedious if you have a crappy ref. Overall, the enhancements Konami have made have been awesome but it's the basic ones that have ruined the game for me.

4 - Graphics. Awesome quality but WTF is the no-crowd crap now? I know why they've done it but playing as Man Utd against Arsenal and having about 500 people in the stadium? A joke right?

5 - Licenses. It's been long enough for Konami to get more licenses and here we are, still with only 2 premiership teams licensed. I know EA has the full license but it's about money. You telling me Konami doesn't have the money to buy the licenses? You telling me FIFA wouldn't sell two lots of the full license for $20 million each as opposed to one exclusive license for $30 million??? It's horrible hearing your team being called the wrong name or having to hear a patched version with a different commentator in a different tone!

Sorry, I know they'll be people who disagree with probably all I've said but I'd hope I made enough of a contribution to the community over the last few years for people just to agree to disagree or understand to a point where I'm coming from.

If Konami pull their head out of their ass next year and get licenses and readdress some of these problems they've introduced into the gameplay over the last few years and finally stop releasing 6 different versions throughout the year then I'd follow them again but it's got to the point in my life where I just want to pick up a game and play and be happy.

Furry love as always.

Fifa06 is still way behing then we9 in gameplay...Fifa06 is better than 05 but cant compare to we9...Is too arcadey and way to fast and you get bored after 10 games like me..

Wolf, youre patches are legendary. I am suprised that you are switching to fifa. Iv only ever notice people switching to pes. I too am probably going back to fifa for a while when it came out.

I had fifa 2005 but got pes4 in april when i found fifa gameplay too scripted. Pes has been fantastic but having to do so many patches and hours editing the game and then finding out i cant do it is so frustrating. FIFA still doesnt have the better gameplay but it has everything there. I dont have to install everything under the sun. I am tired of all the editing so it will be good to get back to fifa for a while.

Also, norwich are no longer in the prem so i doubt i will ever get a realistic team on pes5

I download the FIFA06 demo today.

I also uninstalled it after playing it for 2 minutes.

What a pathetic excuse of a game it is and while it has been improved upon from last year the gameplay and even graphics (what's with all players looking alike and being shiny?!) are worse than PES.
And while WE9/PES5 seems to be having some flaws (ie. still a lack of licenses, multiple version that make no sense etc.) it's still millions of light years ahead of any FIFA game ever released.

I understand totally what you mean Wolf, I have been trying out the WE9 Jap version and the fouls do get quite annoying, it is almost impossible to take the ball away without fouling a player. I also found it quite hard to dribble around players without getting the ball taken away, something that I enjoyed in WE7 at least...I will try out FIFA 06 as well....

i dont understand people saying fifa is more arcadey than pes. I think both games are arcade. In pes the passing is too arcade, the pace is arcade, the 90degree turns are arcade.
All those things are in fifa less arcade compared to pes. Fifa only needs the ball fysics and fluid player animations of pes and i think when they have that it will definately beat pes.

Im really getting bored of pes, maybe i pld it too long, but the game is soo scripted and predictable now.

.....few of words can i say now, reading wolf's words i cried, it's hard to say but at this moment i can't think pes and we without wolf, i got all his wonderful patches, me too i was a fifa player and love fifa and pes, i have no other words than these: no wolf =no pes =no we for me, without him i can't play these games and i don't know other editers like the wolf, pay respect to your decision but let me be sad now, a legend says goodbye, it's no time for playin'.

sorry my bad english but i feel very confused.

Okay played 4 Demo matches -

Hmmmm....

FIFA has improved by leaps and bounds...The AI is tight...the defense is tight....no more 30 yard screamers top shelf.....you must work the midfield....the whol game is sprung from your Midfield....

Superb AND I MEAN SUPERB SOUND TRACK - Oasis' Lyla is the Intro...class....Kits - Crowd - boards - Millenium Stadia all superb...

Players faces - a tad less than WE9 - a tad "grainy" if you will ....

If you want LESS headaches....less BS ....more clubs .../Divisions etc...MUCH MUCH better announcing - Grey and Tydsley are excellent - Class Menus ...TV like overlay ....FIFA is your game....EASILY.

Having played WE9 and owning it for PS2 ..I must say ...I'm leaning towards follwing the WOLF ...the no crowd ....the lack of promoted clubs....no kits....and now SUSPECT gameplay ....has really p!ssed me off.

Wolf...just wanted to say thanks, man, really appreciated all that you've done for me and everyone else who plays WE...I switched over and bought WE7 and have been with it ever since, and honestly, i dont reall feel like i have a REAL game until everyone patches it completely, and then its time for another starter kit of a game...i'll give fifa a try just on your word...but seriously, thanks a lot

Oh man.. even though I`m a PS2 gamer never played PES/WE on PC I know you Wolf did alot of things for PES/WE community and you definetly should be in the PES/WE "hall of fame" section.

I do understand where you`re coming from.. and I give respect to every single patch maker out there I know it takes alot of hard work and dedication to make everything right and work properly. I know this for sure. If FIFA brings the same or even better gameplay then Konami I will never buy WE/PES again.. many people are attracted to WE/PES because of its realistic life-like gameplay..that they forget about the other important things..

Sooner or later we will all have to give up WE/PES or even FIFA.. we are growing and I`m sure we won`t play em when we grow old and have kids or grandkids.. I`m really anxcious to see what Konami will do with PES/WE on next-gen consoles..

WE9 is the best WE to ever be released but it does have some mistakes.. the referee blowing the whistle every single time makes me think I`m playing NFL instead of football. It`s pathetic..

I don`t know if I will play FIFA 2006 but if its anywhere near WE9 then yes I will buy it and EA then deserves the $49.00 ..at least FIFA/EA figured out that they need to bring better gameplay and from what I`m hearing they are just doing that but what Konami gives us is Nippon Chalenge and 2 EPL teams.

OWWW.. so sad.. great lost for the community.. if PES/WE are without those great patches that modder like WOLF and others made then FIFA really is a good choice to turn too.. no real names no real kits no call names that is very SAD.. WOLF really hopes to see u come back to the game in the near future.. maybe PES5/WE9I.. will dl FIFA 2006 demo and tried hehe..

btw will u be updating WE8I patch with the lastest transfer and team ?? PLS PLS.. eventhough u are leaving for FIFA can u release us a patch to complete ur W8I patch ??

lastly still thank u for the patch been following ur work since PES3...

No wonder you want to leave the PES/WE community, what with all the pressure of people expecting you to patch the game better and better each time. I don't blame you! What a sh!t-load of work that must be. I have to say though, you'll be back playing PES/WE before you know it. Even though this new FIFA is the best FIFA yet, it's gameplay is nowhere near as good as PES/WE. I just hope that when you return, the PES/WE community allow you to just enjoy the game and not put mounting pressure upon you to patch the sh!t out of it! Best of luck.
