My Radeon X800XT graphics card has lately started reaching ridiculous temperatures (up to 120C) when I play games. It started when I updated the driver from quite an old version (can't remember exactly but around 7.1 I think) to 7.5. I'm thinking this was just a coincidence though as I have since tried both rolling back the driver and installing 7.6 and am still having the same problem. The error message I'm getting is in the attachment. I've tried with ATI overdrive on and off and I've checked the fans which all seem to be working. Anyone got any ideas of what I can do cos it's really pissing me off?

Have you tried having the case open and checking manually if the card really gets that hot? Might just be the temperature sensors.

You wouldn't, unless you knew the exact layout of the videocard. If you do, and the sensor is nothing but a resistor, which I do expect, you could replace it with a little effort. Don't know if it's worth trying, though.
If the sensors are gone, you'll be getting those errors, but if it allows you to go on as usual you just have to ignore them. If it doesn't, and you still have warranty, you could get it RMA-ed. If you don't have warranty you might as well get a new card.
@Theo: It would, but an open case does attract loads of dust. Most PC hardware doesn't really mind temperatures up to 70C, although some case fans might start acting up at that, so I wouldn't worry too soon. If the airflow in the case is ok, you shouldn't have a problem. Under normal conditions, that's if the airflow is ok and nothing is shorting out, the temperature inside the case shouldn't rise more than 10 to 15C over room temperature.

Now, when the card overheats, at least the first signs, are always artifacts on your screen. Do you get any of that?
Anyway, the only way to really know is get a new fan. Doesnt cost much and isnt much of a problem to place.
