Has Neymar's transfer destroyed football?

Okay so SG was offline when the transfer took place so now I would love to hear your opinions regarding neymar's departure to PSG and the huge, unrealistic fee involved. Personally I think the world's gone crazy. Money shouldn't be splashed around like that.

This would destroy the smaller clubs. I mean how do expect them to even think about trying to sign a decent player?

This WOULD destroy the smaller clubs? Ehm, what do u mean would!? It's already happening, and been happening for years.
Believe it or not, but these sums are "peanut-money" for the guys that finance this.

That's why smaller clubs pretty much rely on youth development or possibly loans. Making great deals in the transfer market is just a fantasy (unless you have that type of astronomical money around).

The smaller club supporters can only pray that their club gets bought by a rich guy. But then there is the case of becchetti and leyton orient. Middle easterns seem to do the job (Man City, Everton, PSG...)

This is a tough one. On the one hand, it destroys the market (temporarily, at least) because everyone is now overpriced. On the other hand, it shakes up the Barca-Real-Bayern-PL hegemony, confirms PSG as a powerhouse Champions League competitor, which makes for a footballing revolution and shift in power. #DisruptiveInnovation

I don't care about Neymar, but Mbappé along with him during one window? 220m + 180m? That angers me, dunno if it's the best club for him, and what if he wants to leave in the future? Will he find himself in a similar situation as Verratti?

Also it shows how easy getting around FFP is.

Mbappe is stuck in such a poor league for the rest of his life. A one team league. The only challenge will be the champions league which is maximum 13 games a year.

Think about it from Mbappe's standpoint: I am 18 years old. I can compete to win the Champions League, Euros, and World Cup (which also means competing for individual awards like the Balloon Door). I am on a monstrous salary. And I get to play and live in my hometown. Where do I sign???

I'm still conflicted:

1) It destroys the market because everyone is overpriced, which is a short term negative.
2) It destroys the established order, which means clubs who think they are entitled to be superior get an ego check, which is a potential long term positive.

Long Term > Short Term, right?

When it comes to compiling a squad and signing players, it's best if you combine those two. You need both talented players who've got a long career ahead of them, and already established players with experience. Plus good depth.

Otherwise there is a pretty good chance of the team pulling an Arsenal.

I'm still pretty proud Liverpool didn't budge on Coutinho - despite the ridiculous money being thrown at them. No way he should be a 140m player, but they were offered around that and still said no.

Barcelona's tactics trying to get him were a bit too pressuring as well. I believe they said something like it's now or never to him, which basically had Coutinho on the ropes, even putting in a transfer request and making all kind of minor scandals. When a club of this magnitude comes begging for you, then it's kind of understandable.

I hope for his sake that he stays professional enough throughout this season, and takes things seriously (like Lewy at Dortmund during his last season over there). Klopp isn't the kind of manager either who appreciates players acting like primadonnas, or undermining the club or the manager (remember Sakho?). I read something that he was left out of the CL squad? Or am I confusing it with Diego Costa and Chelsea?

I wouldn't be surprised if they come after him again next summer or even in January, depending on how things go for them during the first half of the season.

140m? It must've taken Liverpool a lot of balls to reject a bid like that, but considering the lack of depth in midfield, and very little time to get in a proper replacement, they did the right thing. Should he head to Barcelona next summer, at least you've got Naby Keita coming in. Not a like for like replacement, but not all of them have to be. Coutinho's going to spend a little time on the wings this season anyway, I think. Although there will be a lot of rotation nevertheless.

He's only 18, you can't possibly expect him to perform so well in a foreign league he'd be under a lot of pressure. Plus at his age even ligue 1 should be competitive enough even if psg bought him for 100+ and just like @ChungaHungry said this will easily earn him a call up to the world cup squad. But of course what matters is that he gets enough game time. He already has to compete against a decent set of players to get into the first team.

Can't possibly expect a guy who dominated the Champions League knock-out phase almost against every team bar Juventus (who made it to the final) to perform so well in a foreign league?

Lots of pressure? He showed exactly what he's capable of last season. Playing like he did in CL proved that he's got the confidence of a 28-year old striker in his peak, almost.

It showed that his man does not crumble under pressure. See how calm and composed he is in front of goal? Doesn't matter whom he's up against. He is the real deal and will only get better as the time goes on.

Mbappé can perform everywhere. Did you see him last night next to Neymar and Cavani? He played as if he had been playing along with such crowd for years.

Also, if you believe the rumours, then apparently Real Madrid had this plan of selling Cristiano back to Man United for £100M (all this drama he had in Spain with tax issues, court etc), which the Portuguese was content with. They wanted to replace Cristiano by signing Mbappé, but it didn't materialize because Mbappé felt like he wasn't at the right stage of his career to start filling someone like Cristiano's shoes, yet. This also shows how mature he is for his age. Someone who doesn't jump to one of the biggest clubs in the world right away, and thinks what's best for his career's sake before he acts. I really appreciate him for that, and wish him all the best in his career.

Now this thing at PSG, I don't think he'll be stranded there forever.

He reminds me of Ronaldo (Brazilian, the other one I call Cristiano) a little bit, he's got everything - pace, strength, intelligence, trickery, passing, heading and incredible finishing. Like I said previously, he looks so composed, and calm in front of goal for his age. He'd be grand wherever he goes.

TL;DR - This man does not crumble under pressure. He'll excel everywhere and is the real deal.
